Is U.S. international politics the main reason for terrorism? Ask a Question

Someone once pointed out that we could reduce terrorism overnight by about 50% if the US would just quit committing it...

woah, isn't that a little harsh?

Yes.

False? No. but maybe exaggerated.

I ask because U.S. forced a military coup in my country that puts on top general PINOCHET, a criminal dictator, for over 17 years. That wasn't defense of democracy and peace for the world. This produced a great anti-US feeling in our country, not terrorism in our case. Curiosly, the date of that military coup is 11 september, but 1973.

Curious development of the poll. Almost everybody supporting YES lives outside U.S. where its international politic take place :)

Americans are brainwashed. They truly believe that we intercede only in defense of democracy and freedom, and that other countries hate us only because they hate freedom.

No real information about how the World Bank, the World Trade Organization, the American military, and American corporations meddle in the internal politics of other countries whenever there is a buck to be made or a strategic advantage to be had ever makes it into the mainstream media.

Anything not mainstream has been so discredited that any information that might pass into notice is immediately discounted. We are shamefully ignorant--and take pride in our ignorance.

So mostly, we take no responsibility for the astronomical increase in terrorism--even though ,if plotted on a map, it would likely follow our interventions through time and across geography.

LOL!!1!

See, Sheep, what I was telling you? conservatives have no real ideas or facts. If someone thinks differently than they, they either call names or say you hate America or aren't a real 'Murrican!

They do it EVERY TIME--even this guy, and he's pretty new here!

so egocentrics.

You must know that "outhere" US, nobody ask candidates if they are "America lovers" before thinking in voting him.

And nobody talks about "hating America", it's just considering the US international politicas as the main reason for terrorism, as a response.

And leftist had little influence in media to cause such an antiamerican feeling. That's nothing but paranoia.

THE TRUTH IS MORE SIMPLE ALWAYS: US has a large history in bombing, aggresion and disrespect for nations autonomy, it ain't some kind of "conspiracy", it's the direct effect of its international politics. Sorry.

Exactly. It has been said that world-wide terrorism would be reduced by 50% overnight if the US government would quit committing it.

Although we don't call it terrorism when we do it.

Opinions are not facts, although yours are cogently stated.

Tell Amadou Diallo how nice an unracist America is. Hell, tell my grandmother--her grandmother was on the Trail of Tears, and her mother's land that the Dawes supposedly protected was stolen. Tell my grandmother, who nearly starved during the Depression because she wasn't white enough to get aid. Tell my mother, who got used to people crossing the street rather than walk by her. But don't tell me, 'cause I know it's bullshit.

Ah, not only bigoted but ignorant. The Cherokee were very peaceful, farmers, even adopting the white man's religion--and only started killing in retaliation. There wqas, of course, the European habit of interfering in Native affairs and destabilizing relations between nations to contend with too. If you would like to learn more, this is a good site:

Now, as to me--I get on with my life. I just don't let some ignorant loudmouth tell me that there is no place on earth less racist then the USA--because, friend, it is bullshit.

He is just writing verbatim whatever he finds on right wing websites: http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2007/11/the_world_doesnt_hate_america.html

My pardon; the "rabble" was for Sillynilly, stoplookingatme, wingnut, waugs, dauguy, chipmonk, and the others on this website who are friendly and like to play, and hopefully for Cdog (I suspect he likes to play too).

The "abusive" was for you after you started flaming my commentary two days after it had been posted for the above named.

"I pray you bear me henceforth from the noise and rumour of the field, where I may think the remnant of my thoughts in peace, and part of this body and my soul with contemplation and devout desires."

PS I notice you have not been crediting the authors or the websites from which you have been culling your posts. Do you have their permission?

Couldn't it just be yes, or no. I think the Koran is leading cause of Terrorism in modern times. But I can just answer no, because you added that obviously biased rhetoric.

Koran? Excuse me, but Koran is no less violent than the Bible. Koran exist hundred of years ago, wasn't developed ten years ago with the rise of Al Qaida. Please, try to search causes in other places, not in a book, that's really dangerous.

Don't you remember the call to fight Jehova enemies in Old Testament?

And I have to remember you the crusades, or, in your very country, the witch hunters hanging and burning women (a kind of non believers)?

It's not the religion, ain't books. Are stupid people, wrong interpreters of the scriptures in every sacred books. Like many US presidents talking about the "antichrist" when refers to Khomeini, Talibans, Fidel castro, Hussein, or the month's enemy.

Look at some of the Bible quotes posted here. Or just try reading Kings, Joshua, Isaiah, Jeremiah, or any of the other Old Testament.

Joshua 10:40 (King James Version)

So Joshua smote all the country of the hills, and of the south, and of the vale, and of the springs, and all their kings: he left none remaining, but utterly destroyed all that breathed, as the LORD God of Israel commanded.

Judges 14:19

And the Spirit of the LORD came upon him, and he went down to Ashkelon, and slew thirty men of them, and took their spoil, and gave change of garments unto them which expounded the riddle. And his anger was kindled, and he went up to his father's house.

1 Samuel 15:3

Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass.

Psalm 144

1 Blessed be the LORD my strength which teacheth my hands to war, and my fingers to fight:

Especially appropriate, as he was talking about intermarriage with Baylonians:from Jeremiah 16:

3For thus saith the LORD concerning the sons and concerning the daughters that are born in this place, and concerning their mothers that bare them, and concerning their fathers that begat them in this land;

4They shall die of grievous deaths; they shall not be lamented; neither shall they be buried; but they shall be as dung upon the face of the earth: and they shall be consumed by the sword, and by famine; and their carcases shall be meat for the fowls of heaven, and for the beasts of the earth.

Hosea 13:16

16Samaria shall become desolate; for she hath rebelled against her God: they shall fall by the sword: their infants shall be dashed in pieces, and their women with child shall be ripped up.

God pretty much commanded that any non-believer be slaughtered so that his chosen people could take their land..

When I went to Southern Baptist college, Bible was a required subject. I got straight A's.
