Good point :D

In contrast to life, intelligent life is probably non existent or we would have seen it. There is no reason for intelligent life not to fill the universe, humans have looked carefully and can't see them, most likely because they are not there. Maybe we should accelerate that space colonisation project...

According to the Drake equation, the probability of intelligent life (approximate to us) existing somewhere in the known universe is almost 100%. The probability of it being close enough to us for us to detect it - in the vast and unimaginably massive universe - is incredibly slim. So, is there intelligent life out there? Most likely. Have they been here before? Not a chance. Will we ever meet? Very, very improbable, but remotely possible.

The Drake equation was, in my opinion, a conservative measure of the probability of Intelligent life having been here previously. However, the idea that fundamental Life forms are locally plentiful in interstellar space and seed throughout the entire Universe does not have the same low probability as Drake calculated. We evolved intelligence on our own but Life MAY have been brought here via comets/meteoroids.

This line of reasoning is illogical and dangerous. Just because we have looked, but have not succeeded in finding any intelligent life does not mean that it probably doesn't exist. Scientists have estimated that the entire visible horizon is approximately 30-160 billion light years across. That means if you could travel at the speed of light, you would have to live many times longer than Earth's current age to even skim a portion of the universe. This goes to show how difficult of a problem it is to "look" for intelligent life versus the limitations of our cutting edge technology in tackling this problem.

Given what we are doing to the earth, the question is pehaps more appropriately - is there intelligent life on earth?

The surest sign intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe, is that none of it has ever tried to contact us.
