Yes

I am ready but I don't think the USA as a whole is ready. Too much racism going around for this to happen.

I think alot of people say they will vote for an African-American candidate, but when they get the in booth, they won't.

well... put a good one forward and ill vote for them... but if this question is asking if I would vote for Barack Obama, then the answer is Def. NO... but, I would vote for Alan Keyes or Colin Powell or Condi Rice

I'm pretty sure that the question is asking about African-American candidate in general, not necessarily the exact African-American that happens to be running for office. Otherwise, the question could have simply been, "Would you vote for Obama?"

True true... except the question doesnt make any sense at all. You cant ask a question and then say agree or disagree... agree/disagree questions must have an affirmative statement for me to either agree or disagree... since they didnt make an affirmative statement, I was left wondering what they meant.

But yes, Americans would vote for an african american if the candidate shared their values. Very few would consider the race... at least that is what I think... and im from the south

Rightly or wrongly,I don't think that the country is going to vote for a black person for President right now. Especially given the qualifications of the current hopeful. I believe that someday a qualified black person will have the same opportunity to be elected as any other race. Race should not be an issue.

I think we are ready for a qualified president. Since all presidents have to be American, why is it the only people that add a qualifying country of origin are African Americans? I guess that makes me an English American. (I was born here).

Europe American to be precizely the equivalent of African American...

You haven't heard of Asian-Americans, or Native Americans?

Native Americans are native to this land I call my home. The Asian Americans that I know were not born here but immigrated here and became citizens through the system. They are proud to now call themselves "American".

Freddo...I am from the U.S. as well and agree with your reply. However, your comment was 'Since all presidents have to be American, why is it the only people that add a qualifying country of origin are African Americans?' I bet if a candidate was Irish, Asian or other nationality they would be sure to let people know that very fact...JUST to get votes. Regardless how qualified they were to begin with.

Maybe I haven't been paying attention, but what is the country of origin of the candidates now currently vying for the position of highest office of our land? I have only heard of one.

Freddo - CORRECTOMUNDO. But you know politicians. They will use ANYTHING they can, religion, gender, age, experience, etc to try and get votes. And yes, heritage as well.

I'm confused. I have a "white" friend whose parents emigrated here from South Africa. Is he an African-American? What about an olive-skinned child of Egyptian immigrants? Isn't it about time we stopped categorizing people by the level of pigmentation in their skin and judged them solely on the "content of their character"?

My point exactly.

Why do people look at the color of a persons skin to determine if they are fit to be president? The ONLY difference between a white person and a black person is the amount of pigment in their skin!George Washington Carver always taught his students to be color blind;so why can't America be color blind and stop looking at the color of peoples' skin?Oh and by the way,I am 14 years old and white.

I think if someone like Collin Powell---were running, he's seems to be pretty electable. Experienced. Diplomatic. Visionary. He would make an excellent candidate potentially.

Would you vote for Barry Bonds?
