Found a website that listed all reported tornadoes in California since the 1950s. They showed a sudden increase in the late 1970s, and, although not increasing in severity (no F3, F4, F5s, for instance), quite producing the least severe funnels.
Everything has a cycle. Global warming, global cooling. I am sure that the palm frond fossils they have found in the Rocky Mountains were a part of a cycle.

Yesterday it was raining. Today is sunny. What is it with this dang weather?
I don't know about it getting rougher but it's certainly getting more bizzare. Some days I go out in the sunshine and come home in snow/hail!
