No, neither is it a reason NOT to vote for them.

I don't think it is a reason to vote for someone, but it is the reason some actually look to the candidate to see what they have to say. It gets our attention.

Crazydog, would be interesting if you could follow it up with a negative question like "Is "because he's black" or "because she's a woman" a good decision to vote AGAINST someone?"

I believe a lot of people vote for a candidate because "He is like me" or because "He understands my problems". Sometimes it's difficult to differentiate whether you are voting for a candidate because "He is like me" or because "He is black like me" (or even "He is a rich white guy like me").
