I always keep my cell phones for at least 2 years because I know that even if I buy another one it won't last:-) I'll want a new one within 3 months. Same goes for my MP3 player.
If it's important for you, then buy it, but if you know you'll want new one after a while, think about it a little more (maybe there will be an opportunity for a better buy after another year).
