In your opinion, do you have to believe in God to be president of the USA? Ask a Question

are you serious?

What is the problem??

Perhaps you are unfamiliar with the "establishment clause" of the Constitution? ;o)

Do you think an admitted atheist could be elected ,is what the question is.........

I refer you again to the establishment clause of the Constitution. You may have to profess a belief in God to be "elected" but not to "be" president.

well you wont "be" president if you aren't "elected", unless you are Lindon Johnson. What the heck are you arguing about--we both know what the other is saying?? I know what the hell that clause in the constitution is saying and it has nothing to do with this question. No one else is having a problem.

This question was on CNN, and of course the Republican contributer said yes. He said it is "too big of a job for one person" as in you need gods support for the job.

I intended to add that Larry King asked this of Paster Warren on his show tonight--His reply was, to get my vote he would.., I just wondered how the opinion would stack up.

LoL...wonder if that means he would vote for a Pastafarian!

HAAAAA--great question!!

Excellent!!

State of the Union Address.

"We are pleased to report we are winning the battle against global warming. In the last year the government has recruited several thousand true pirates, and He has blessed us with a 2 degree drop in average temperature :).

................

and finally may you all be blessed by the touch of His noodley appendages".

So... could that God be Buddah? How about Allah? Zeus?

these names are all the same god! only one god! it doesn't matter what the name is!

try saying that to a Hindu :)

try saying it to the majority of earth..(atheists)

Try saying that to a fundamentalist Christian... or a fundamentalist anything.

If I ever meet a fundamentalist rabbit I'll be sure to ask him :)

Shit man, don't do that! Those Fundie Bunnies are rabid fighters for Frith, they'll carrot-stab you as soon as you open your mouth. All that crap about Bright Eyes burning like fire...it's the light of madness, madness I tell you!!

Sorry...I think I was channeling Fiver there.

Very classy. You are exceeding even your own very high standards today!

having to bite my lip not to roar with laughter in the office (which can be a bit of a give away that you are not working!)

Loved the famous carrot killings btw, super film.

Buddha was a man who founded a religion; not a god.

"He is not the Messiah, he is a very naughty boy!"

"How shall we f*ck off, O Lord?" :)

:)

Why would you have to?

Because you're unlikely to be elected otherwise?

It's a shame. It would be refreshing if someone who was at least agnostic came along and had a real shot at the presidency. Such a candidate now would be summarily dismissed.

if you really believe in god but not rumors and lies.....u would be a good person for being a good president!

Any god? It doesn't matter which one? Allah, Yahweh, Jupiter, Zeus, God, or someone else? One is as good as the next?

yeah why not?!! they are all the same god! these are only names that are different! the main point is to believe in good and one God! it doesn't matter what the name is!

If you believe in good then it doesn't matter what your god is called? It could be called, "The Force" (Star Wars) or it could be called "the unified field theory" (the cosmic glue that holds everything together)?

What about if you truly did not believe, saeed? Would that person be a good president still?

in a free and democratic nation this wold not be an issue.

It should not matter. Until I joined this forum I thought it did not matter. Now I realise it is true.

How very sad.

You might as well say that you have to believe Hans Andersons fairy tales in order to be president.

If the majority of the US Population believed in Hans Anderson fairy tales, then yes you would also have to believe in them to be elected president.

I think this is a great system as the people dictate what they want their leader to believe in or not instead of the other way around where the leader dictates the beliefs to the people.

Should he then believe in the fairy tales of all Americans then?

I guess he would be so busy learning all those different religions, sub groups, and whacky cults, he.she would not have much time for anything else.

And whast happens when the assorted beliefs differ?

How can he believe in a "one true god" and be a Hindu?

Who was the last messenger, Moses, JC, Mo, or Joseph Smith?

No, one does not have to believe in God. Pretending to is sufficient.

No. Many Presidents have not believed in God. I would venture the majority have not, despite what they said.

That was then, this is now!
