Three have been many times I have agreed with this. Then some idiot posts a 300 line spam email essay. You can still read the comments, so I don't really think it matters.
Really? So as long as you do not incite violence, do you have the right to yell, "Fire!" in a crowded theater? Does Janet Jackson have the right to bare her breast at the Superbowl?
Actually, it's a pointless discussion, because Ask500People has no obligation to protect anyone's 1st amendment rights. They are a private company and you are using their service, which means you have to play by their rules.

I understand that they have no obligation to protect my 1st amendment rights and I also understand that they are a private company with their own rules. They are also not obligated to moderate down comments. I am merely suggesting that they modify their rules to eliminate this feature.
I like it when my comments get huge negatives. Especially when it is a factual response (with link backup) to someone's rant. But the looney ran is at like +4 and my fact based response is like -3.
It makes me laugh. I also like to see my comments go really low when I advocate killing babies or state that the US Iraq deaths are not that high.

The US military under reports Iraqi deaths for 'morale' purposes. The Iraqis' overstate them for sympathy and 'morale' purposes. The truth will probably never be known but is, no doubt, somewhere in the middle.
And I've never seen you advocate the killing of babies. (lol)
I've often suspected that the US military will only even consider counting the Iraqi deaths that happened at the hands of US troops by accident, fire fight confusion, or rape and family murder by those psychologically unsound troops. Those committed by Blackwater, mercenaries or other independent, hired corporate bodyguards - those are probably not even considered.

Certainly not as that. Free speech does not give you the right to yell, "Fire" in a crowded theater. Free speech does not give you the right to incite others to commit violent and illegal acts. Free speech doesn't even give you the right to say the "7 naughty words" on an FCC (read government) licensed station. And, perhaps most importantly, in the words of Hubert Humphrey, "the right to be heard does not include the right to be taken seriously."
I see. Once again you have NO interpretation of what "free speech" is... only sound bites of rights it does not provide... just a head full of mush roaming aimlessly through this world. :-)

It is very clear that I know much more than you... about most things... and I communicate much more effectively than you. My only flaw has been trying to reason with you on an adult level, instead of treating you like the little dingleberry you are. My hand is now on the "Ask500People" toilet handle. Whoooooooooooosh. Bye, little fecal matter. :-)

No, because some people post disgusting, obscene hateful or racist comments. These are not necessarily protected as free speech.
Only violence can be past the line, general racism is strongly protected by free speech....

I am talking about racism....

Very end of the clip.
It doesn't really curtail free speech. The posts are still readable. While it is abused, it is used appropriately at times also.

Nor is the site based in the US.
Agreed.

Actually, if they didn't "moderate down," they might be opening themselves up to defamation lawsuits based on what users say. Or not.
What do I know?

[1 point] 3 years ago by deleted user ReplyBecause they've confused it in the US lately. Part of the 'politics as usual' by both sides.
Okay, I'll bite. I interpret free speech to be the freedom to speak freely without censorship or limitation.
Educate me now as to how I should interpret it, oh great Waugs. :-)

[1 point] 3 years ago by deleted user ReplyI've mulled that, too. But all that would do is make it worse.
Why? So they can start a vendetta against those commenters?

[1 point] 3 years ago by deleted user ReplyWhich as silly said, would only make things worse. Why not just take advantage of the fact that the little arrows go both ways. ;o)
