I am a Christian and very conservative. Many on this site are very confrontational when the subject is either about Christianity or conservative ideals. Unfortunately they believe in equality, as long as you're not a Christian. I have found them to be the most hateful and discriminatory, sometimes making me feel attacked and as though I need to defend my position. I am truly sorry that you are leaving the site, but do pray you will find a different way to be able to share your Christianity at a more accepting venue. If you do find something, let me know. In Christ, Kerry

fortunately, as a being who is human, i believe in equality, tolerance & understanding on all levels, no matter what attacks i may perceive.

The problem is very conservative Christians tend to only believe in equality for fellow conservative Christians. And that's pretty damn unChristian and unAmerican. Yet for the last eight years, in the name of Jesus Christ - conservative Christians lauded war and torture and supported GW Bush - and called us unAmerican for speaking ideals different from yours. Even now Christians advocate discrimination and giving other US Citizens less rights simply because they don't "approve" of them. Really crappy attitude. And VERY unChristian.

So, unless you want to say that ALL your fellow citizens deserve equal rights under the law, unless you wish to admit that God does not approve of torture (not to mention Jesus was a HUGE pacifist) - then you're not REALLY a Christian. You're more about getting to push other people around and using Jesus to do it. And THAT is what the majority of American Christians are really about. Not Christianity - but about passing judgment. And passing judgment is unChristian, too.

Christians are the most condescending and when people lash back and remind them of the bigotry, they feel they're being attacked.

And even worse...when they feel they are being attacked, they wear it as a badge of honor and think they are being persecuted for Jesus' sake and that they more they are persecuted, the more right they must be. ;o)

Christians do not have a monopoly on that, extremists in all religions do it, specially when they believe they in the majority. (I am sure there are atheists as well)

When I was growing up a Christian was a Christian. There was no distinction between conservative Christians and liberal Christians.

Now, some want it such that Conservative = Christian. It is offensive, and corrosive.

Bob, A Christian has never been just a Christian. I grew up as a preacher's kid in a moderately liberal denomination. You should have heard what the Southern Baptists had to say about us B^)

One of the better apologies I have seen April. P.S. jonmarc never left.

Hey April, it takes a big person to apologize and you did it. Find a nicer place to dialogue. This is for polling and not necessarily for so much discussion. I do believe that some of the insulting things people write are petty. They need to prove themselves for some reason and they come here. Find a more meaningful outlet. Most of us conservatives have not been able to get questions up for a vote. You are not alone. Look at it this way, there is way more important things to do in life than this.

Apology accepted. That being said, there are good points to a conservative viewpoint. If you honestly made a genuine, calm effort to present them - then I'd be willing to give you a bit more respect if you choose to remain.

Arguing does not mean insulting.

Try discussing, digesting, and evolving...

I know what you mean about the "left side" April. Sometimes I ask myself, how can they believe what they believe. As long as you agree with them everything is fine, but if you do not then comes the name calling,, i.e. "neocons". A lot of the country is turning "Liberal" because more and more people do not want to take personal responsibility and they want someone else i.e. the government, to take care of them.

Both the left and the right have done the name calling and this will not change unless we all change together.

neoconservative definition

☆ neo·con·ser·va·tive (-kən sʉr′və tiv)

adjective

designating or of an intellectual, political movement that evolved in the late 1970s in reaction to liberal and leftist thought, advocating individualism (senses 3 & 5 ), traditional moral standards, anti-Communist foreign policy, etc.

in·di·vidu·al·ism (in′də vij′o̵̅o̅ əl iz′əm)

noun

1. individual character; individuality

2. an individual peculiarity

3. the doctrine that individual freedom in economic enterprise should not be restricted by governmental or social regulation; laissez faire

4. the doctrine that the state exists for the individual and not the individual for the state

5. the doctrine that self-interest is the proper goal of all human actions; egoism

6.

a. action based on any of these doctrines

b. the leading of one's life in one's own way without conforming to prevailing patterns

That is descriptive, not name calling.

If that describes your political beliefs, you ARE a neoconservative, just as my beliefs could get me called an anarcho-syndicalist or libertarian socialist. Assuming, of course, that the person so labeling me had the slightest idea what those terms mean.

I am going to ask this as neutrally as possible because I really am curious dauguy.

How can a Libertarian be Socialist? Socialism would seem to require Big Government. Libertarianism is, in many ways the opposite of Big Government. These two ideas seem to be mutually exclusive.

Lookie, dauguy! Joyce is trying to threaten meeeeeeeee!! Sorry - had to share! (roflmaooo)

I think this site is an open world site, a site to seek advice, where almost any view is expressed, for or against.

If I wanted to write seriously about religion, health, employment, family values I would look for a site with like minded people or experts in their field.

oh dear we will miss you.................................................................................................=P

It's just a polling site. You can comment any way you want. But you shouldn't expect others to share your opinions or be malleable to your will. Perhaps it's best just to state your opinion, if the question doesn't get at your viewpoint, and forget about engaging in fruitless argument. You don't have to get wrapped up in flame wars, and can avoid them merely by avoiding them.

Thanks for being here as long as you could. You are welcome to visit any time.

this is because usually young people use this site - I think

You cannot find a better place because the distribution of liberals on this site is about the same as in real life.

In free logical and rational discussions, the liberal view will prevail.

conservative ideas are like dinosaurs which found their ideals among the privileged few. It is not accommodating.

The principles of conservatism are:

respect for the constitution

respect for life

less government

personal responsibility

If you think these principles are outdated, perhaps you should reassess your value system.

The principles of conservatism are:

respect for the constitution, but Bush ran roughshod over it.

respect for life (except in wars, just or otherwise; except after the unwanted child is born into poverty; except when the illegal gun trade is allowed to flood our streets with killers, etc.).

less government, although Bush grew it dramatically, while at the same time making it incompetent.

personal responsibility, which means never telling the truth and never addressing failure.

It's a wonderful "value" system.

I wish the Republican party could reform themselves along those lines.

So do I.

I think the wold is being dominated by a more liberal (thoughtful) view and the 'old school' of mixing religion and government w/ conservative views is dieing out. I think that in a few years there may be some fiscal conservatives left, but the moral conservatives will have died off. (like the Puritans).

What is a Liberal ?

1 Replies to Aussie's answer

To me it is a member of the (currently) third largest political party, we have Labour, Conservative and Liberal traditionally, though the Liberals are now technically known as Liberal Democrats as they joined with a short lived rival centerist party called the Social Democrats.

(Before the Labour party developed between the 2 world wars, it was the Conservatives and Liberals who were the main parties)

I thought you also have a Liberal party as one of your "Big 2"?

Just can't face the thought of life here without your beloved Jonmarc, eh?
