when we die we will re-encarnate into cats

I like the thought of feeding a tree.

I'm probably a lot nearer my life's end than most and I don't feel any bleakishness coming on. And who wants to go to hell because they do not know the difference between 'your're' and 'your'?

(Why are US schools so very poor? They seem to churn out grammatically challenged people who are so credulous that no cult, sect or nutty conspiracy theory lacks adherents).

You have to believe in the Easter bunny, Santa Claus, or a supreme being(god) to think the way you do. Since no one can correctly answer the following two questions the endgame is unknown.

1) How did the universe come into being.

2) How did the answer to #1 and the answer to this question come into being.

Why does anything exist? Our universe could technically be a snow globe in someone else's universe. There is no answer anyone could give that would reasonably answer any question like this. So please don't try. :)

Good points. Since recently discovering ZOMGitschriss's thoughtful YouTube videos on this subject it has really opened my eyes.

Short link: http://bit.ly/QYiPx

Not only is she cute, she's smart. Over the last few days I watched all 53 of her videos. I cannot say I agree with everything she says but I do think she has many good ideas.

This is great video stuff chip, I can see how you could watch all of them. It is a good find and thanks for sharing.

:-)

I think it is the Christian point of view which is bleak because time on earth is seen as a waiting room before ascension to paradise. I would rather fill my days with worthwile things and look for no reward for doing so.

But wouldn't it be great to fufill your life on earth, while being a (insert standard religion) and going to (insert standard afterlife) and having fun there?

Since I do not believe in any form of afterlife or reincarnation I suppose after this life it will simply be "over and done with" and I will return to a state of nothingness just as before I was conceived. That is not scaring or bleak, it does mean all my sorrows and pains will disappear as well at that point.

If you don't believe in Santa, don't you think your outlook on Christmas is bleak? Since you could be good all year, but gain no presents from the fat guy in red?

It isn't about thinking what's more comforting, it's about thinking what's TRUE.

You get comfort from religion Lin. So good for you - at least it has some utility.

(Is this ignorant enough to confirm your forebodings?)

I have never voted you down Lin. Not really a big compliment as I've never voted anyone's comment down.

If your ashes are buried at sea (e.g., JFK Jr.) you still become soil? :)

Mud???

Possibly. Maybe muck. :)

YEP!! :9

I can?t believe that in the 21st century people continue to believe in silliness like talking snake, talking donkey, people resurrected from the dead, and so on. A loving mighty god who created Satan, let?s Satan seduces Adam while doing nothing to stop him, and then decided to punish mankind for the mistake of one person. Why the hell should I be punish for Adam. God then decided that he must save mankind again, so to rectify, he send his son (who happens to be himself too) to die on the cross. Couldn?t find a better way. In order to be saved, humanity must obey everything in an inconsistent book with many mistakes and contradictions while engaging on collective incestuous sexual relation (since we all come from Adam and Eve).

Well I just learned God smited 42,000 people because they couldn't pronounce Shibboleth. Makes me think people on this site who pounce on people for misspellings and grammatical errors are only following in their Master's footsteps.

How god-like am I? ;)

How true. Repeat after me: the word is NOT 'smited' but 'smote'.

God-like? Ha!

LOL

Mr. Smartass has another gramatic comment.

Read above comment ^^^^^^ (not the one directly above, but the one towards the top)

;%)

Straws - As deluded as Atheists are, they are not crazy. They have come to terms with their own death and don't understand our fascination with it. They have come to terms with the seeming randomness of life and don't understand our joy at discovering something more,

You may pity them. You may not understand them. But if you are a Christian, you must treat them with respect. I don't think you have to roll over. They will be unfair at times and evil must be called what it is, but please don't treat them like they are crazy or ill informed.

Yeah, and the Jews are too paranoid about Iran, and cap and trade is an environmental bill and all Republicans are racists and North Korea is just exercising their Mother Earth given rights to build nuclear weapons and the Easter bunny and Jesus Christ are equally valid. Anything you'ld like to add to your Progressive list.
