I'm an American steelworker so I would only buy an American made car. My wife works for Ford so that narrows it down even more. So it is a Mustang for me.
I would buy an American car before any other. But next would be German, so I said Porsche. Probable a 911 turbo. For American I would get a 1965-69 for mustang.
A close friend of ours, single, over fifthy years old, owns three cars. He uses his Porche only to find a female for a night and is very successful even though he is dressed like a homeless and does not spent much money on them either. He is correct when he says with his other, "normal" cars he would never ever find a date, because nature was really not good to him. I know similar stories as well.
I read that most Porsche's are leased. I am not informed about the other status cars, but wondering how many of those are fully paid. But then, that's not our problem.

You are correct, they are a status symbol only.
