we had this quesytion a while back, only it was 1/2 million. Most were for turning it in to the cops. As an experiment, I said I would keep it, and was roundly denounced--until I pointed out that that much cash probably belonged to a dope dealer, at which point many of the denouncers changed side.

If it is wrong to keep it, it is wrong. Just because someone is socially unacceptable doesn't mean that YOUR responsibility to act ethically in your treatment of them goes away.

I actually know a guy that found about $200,000 in a suitcase on his farm and turned it in to the police. I bet that was a pretty tough decision.

Short time ago some woman found 24.000€ in a bag on a city tram, she gave it to the tram driver as lost baggage and left o.o

Was a large media hunt for this honest citizen because she was entitled to a 10% finders fee, and if the real owner doesn't come and claim it within a certain time she gets to keep 2/3 of it (rest goes to the state treasury).

Strangely no one have claimed ownership of it yet..

The only person I trust to handle the money responsibly is me. I really am not selfish, but the other options are just BS.
