For starters, it is playing into their hands, their only hope of national unity is to rally together against a real external threat.

Bush will bomb Iran if Obama wins the election. His logic will be this: if McCain were to win, Bush would feel comfortable leaving it to him to decide when to attack Iran. But he knows Obama would not attack, so he'll want to make sure it gets done.

Sorry for that. This is how the guy works, though.
Watching McCain pretending to be president BFF with Georgia this week, people should be watching this to see how this man will govern. If he was president now, the US would be military conflict with RUSSIA. He can't wait, he wants the Cold War back badly. You can see him getting excited, he's even remembering the words of his speeches. It's like going up against the old Soviet has given him rejuvinating powers or something.
This man wants war. More and bigger and better and with only the highest quality enemies. None of this middle east crap, he wants the big boys.

If he (Bush) does, without some previous dramatic triggering event by Iran, his party will almost certainly lose the election by a landslide.
