If someone else is allowed to have nukes, then why would Israel be stopped from having them? Letting others play with the toys is simple playground ethics.
As long as Iranian leaders promote the idea that Israel, or other states, should be destroyed, Iran should be prevented from developing nukes, by all peaceful means. But Israel is not threatening the survival of other nations, so they get a pass.
I can send you to about 7 or 8 Youtube videos of him where he is asked about the statement...and in NONE of the videos does he deny saying it nor does he claim it was a misquote.
60 Minutes interview for example...go to the 7:50 mark and see if he denies it.
If he has a desire to wipe Israel off the face of the earth it is hardly irrelevant. Since he has not claimed that this was a misquote or misunderstanding I have to assume it is not. There are a number of instances where he has used the slogan "death to Israel"...and that is NOT a misquote.
Then Israel retaliates with their 120 or so nukes. In the mean time Israelis are continuing to build more houses for its people in occupied territory. The reason they do not want the other countries to be as powerful (militarily and economically) as them is that they then would have to obey the international rules.
The reason they do not want the other countries to be as powerful as them is that they do not wish to be annihilated. Can you blame them? They have been attacked simultaneously from practically every one of their bordering nations and were nearly wiped off the face of the earth a couple of times. Considering the power of a nuclear weapon and the size of Israel, two or three could wipe them out completely.
Lets hypothetically assume that the Jews are legally in what is now called Israel, that is still no reason why they are building even more settlements in occupied territory, proof they are looking to expand their borders and ignoring international law.
Im not trying to say that Israel is faultless in the problems going on over there. There is plenty of blame to go around. There are no perfect solutions and I don't have all the answers. Kicking the Palestinians off their land was wrong, but its done now and I don't see a way to undo it. Kicking the Jews out of their home in Arab controlled lands was wrong..but you cant really undo that either. I think you pretty much have to settle for the status quo, stop the fighting and allow the Palestinians to have their own country...IF they recognize Israel and their right to live in peace.
At a minimum the building of all settlements on occupied territory has to stop and any existing ones need to be handed over to the Palestinians. Palestinians need to stop firing rockets at Israel. Then they can start negotiating a peaceful solution. Both sides need to be willing to compromise, but as it is Israel is taking more land and resources for itself and they will continue to do so if the international community only condemns the actions of the Palestinians. I am not holding my breath.
I agree for the most part. I wonder if the Israelis would give a small portion of the occupied land back and agree to a Palestinian state if Iran and the other countries in the area would recognize Israels right to exist in peace and would promise not to build nuclear weapons?
Sorry to disagree they should give it ALL back. It was never theirs according to international law. Israel has no intention to make peace they continue their land grab and we (the developed nations) are supporting that by giving them Billions in aid.
Canada should give land back to the Indians, after all they signed a treaty at the time... Even today Israel is building settlements on land that is not part of Israel, supported by our tax dollars.
As I said...there is plenty of blame to go around...but until the Pals are ready to let the Israelis in peace there is not much that can be done. I'm not saying they are 100% in the right but then again...neither are the Pals.
We can agree there is plenty of blame to go around. But surely you don't condone the building of Israeli settlements on land that is not part of what is now know as Israel.
I think the answer should not depend on the question if Isreal has them. As far as I know Iran signed international agreements against the spread of nuclear arms, and therefore promised not to produce them. The country should be held to its promise. The spread of nuclear arms technology is highly undesirable, even to (now) peacefull nations.
Which peaceful measures are you referring to? Are you saying that they promised not to defend themselves against attacks from Egypt, Syria, Jordan and Lebanon...not to mention the Palestinians?
You do realize that they are called Palestinians because they were born in Palestine, the name of the country before the Jews kicked them out so they could start their religious state now called Israel?

Do you not realize that Jews were in Israel for thousands of years? Do you not understand that Muslims have religious states all around Israel most of which have at one time or another attacked Israel with the intention of destroying these people? Has Israel vowed to wipe Jordan off the face of the earth? How about Egypt or Syria? Why should the Jews not have a small sovereign country of their own in their ancestral homeland??
Jordan is a part of the plan for a greater Israel?? What on earth are you talking about??
You do not seem to oppose illegal mass immigration into the US but you think its a bad thing when Jews return to their homeland??
Do you or do you not believe that Jews were in Israel for thousands of years?
Edit: And why did the Jews choose to come to the country we now call Israel? Did they they pic this area at random? Why were they wanting to pull up roots from their fabulous places that they came from and live in a foreign land surrounded by sworn enemies? Could it possibly be that Jews were being killed by the millions in Europe and wanted to return to their ancestral home to escape persecution? Could it be that they wanted a homeland where the government would be on their side for once in the last 2000 years? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_Jews#Up_to_the_Crusades. And what about the Jews that were exiled from Arab lands? Will you give them their homes back and promise them protection? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jewish_exodus_from_Arab_lands

Just to play the devil's advocate here why did most practitioners of Judaism (colloquially, Jews) leave Israel and not return to Israel until virtual necessity made the return necessary, while Palestinians who never left their homeland are considered the bad guys. If you look through the U.S. government documents that detail the negotiations that helped allow the creation of twentieth century Israel, you will note the Brits did not favor the idea. People in the USA are the people who made it possible. Perhaps the Brit history of imperialism is what made them aware of the problems countries experience when large numbers of people get displaced from or made to feel unwelcome in their native lands. I think people around the world felt guilty for standing by idly in the 1930's before Hitler invaded Poland when Germany instituted the Nuremberg laws. If "we" wanted to help the Jews why didn't we do it then before their European numbers were decimated? There is much room here for blame and I highly favor the arrest, trial, and deaths of war criminals, ...but no matter how much I grieve over past events none of the horrific misdeeds committed against Jewish people were the fault of Palestinians and they have more right to peacefully live in what once was Palestine than anyone else. If you disagree please explain at length.

2) Considering that Jews are in fact FROM the middle east and considering that Muslims have numerous states where their religion is not only the dominant religion but the law of the land, then why should the Jews be denied a home land, small as it is and surrounded by enemies, don't they deserve a state of their own...just one? Why do they NOT deserve to have one tiny little state to call their own when they are persecuted threw out the world??
3) If you cannot and will not give the Jews back their lands in Arab countries and protect them so that they can live as they wish and live in peace then why should they take in people who have sworn to destroy them and have made numerous attempts to do so? Would you invite someone into your house who has sworn they would kill you?
4) The Palestinians have been given millions and millions in aid. What have they done with this money? Have they spent it on improving their infrastructure? Have they spent it on schools? Have they spent it on providing jobs for their population? Or have they spent this money on weapons and bombs to terrorize their neighbor who they have sworn to kill?

But tell me, are the Palestinians the ones who expelled Jews from Arab lands?
If anyone should have to pay the piper here, shouldn't it be the Arabs and not the Palestinians? Maybe the USA should aim it's nukes at the Arabs and say you better let the Jews back or else! Ya think? :)
Palestinians are Arabs. So when the Arab states kicked out the Jews out they should have allowed the Palestinians to immigrate to their countries. In fact the Arabs care little for the Palestinians and are using them as pawns to play their little kill the Jews game.
I am not claiming to have all the answers to the middle east problem, but I do feel like the Jews deserve a small piece of crappy rock strewn ground to call their own, and I think they have the right to defend that crappy rock strewn ground from people who don't really WANT the land but just want the Jews to cease to exist.
As for the Palestinians...I do think they deserve their own state...but that state should be a good neighbor and not a terrorist controlled puppet state.
If someone else is allowed to have nukes, then why would Israel be stopped from having them? Letting others play with the toys is simple playground ethics.

Oh they're not?
They certainly know how to bait people and ignore the basic rights of many, but I suppose this is ok?
How many times has the leader of Israel said that he wanted to wipe the country of Iran off the face of the earth?
So just assume that it is fair that Iran gets a nuke, and assume that they are crazy enough to actually use it...then what?

Actually, I think the 1923-1947 British mandated lines of territory should be upheld.
Ok, lets run with that. Can those who fled the fighting, return to their country and be full citizens?
Can the Jews who fled persecution in Muslim countries return home and become full citizens? If so then yes...but how will you ensure their protection?
Absolutely...

I think Israel has signed and agreed to peaceful measures in the past but it's all a bit of a joke to them really.

I think religious states, regardless of the religion is a stupid idea and yes Jordan is part of the plan for a greater Israel.
Jordan is a part of the plan for a greater Israel?? What on earth are you talking about??
