Not before the election, maybe after.:)))
And this outrageous situation is based on what? Flights of fantasy are not a sound basis for reasonable debate.

[1 point] 4 years ago by deleted user ReplyOf course it's possible. Any government may act to defend itself if the conditions warrant it. My point, however, is that such conditions do not exist and there has been no indication that Bush plans to try to take over the country before his last term as President expires. Considering his quickly falling national approval rating, the military would probably just laugh at him anyway.
Didn't know that this forum was for debate (although it has turned into one on occasion and I'm as guilty as anyone for that) rather it is an attempt to gather opinions on topics of interest. Because enough people have found the question interesting and have given it enough points to be considered, it apparently is a valid question. That this occurred in less that 4 hours after my submission indicates to me that the question is not only valid but poignant.
As your Canadian neighbour ... I will be probably moving as far north as possible.
If I am not mistaken, bubba clinton signed a presidential order that would accomplish the same thing!
I believe you are mistaken, patriot. Clinton's order did, in fact, deal with how the government should respond in a national emergency but Bush completely rescinded Clinton's Order (other Presidents simply fine tuned their predecessor's) and has added such ideas to his order as allowing him to declare martial law on his judgment alone, revoking the Posse Comitatus Act (been around since 1878), the Insurrection Act (passed in 1807), empowered himself to take control of the National Guards away from each State Governor (rescinding Constitutional Law, Militia Acts of 1792, 1862, and 1903), just to point out a few salient changes. These may not be significant changes to you, sir, but I'm guessing then that you don't miss the protection of Habeas Corpus either.
For those that care to get the official word on the Posse Comitatus Act and Homeland Security can go to the following document and bypass all the myths and misinterpretations on the subject it is not complicated http://www.homelandsecurity.org/journal/Articles/brinkerhoffpossecomitatus.htm Also it is easy to change the and is when necessary according to the times, and guess what the President only requests it the Congress approves and makes it so. Although it is generally avoided Title 18, U.S. Code, Section 1385 does not prevent the use of our military to be used in times of national crisis or desaster.
