I can't speak for others, I don't steal, but I do lock my doors at night.

Do you think most people are thieves?

Why would he think that?

My brother-in-law sleeps with a handgun next to his bed, yet I am sure he does not think most people are murderers.

No, I think most people are honest.

I lock my doors because I am in New York City. Plus, if I don't do it, my mother does.

I NEVER locked my doors in California. Never had a break in either.

In answer to your question, WiseOne, I have often found that axiom to be true. I've had to train myself to think a bit like one for my job in finance (in order to make sure our cash handling procedures are sound). Otherwise I'm afraid my company would get stolen blind while we sit by.

I understand the ratio between prevention and cure.

My Father said to me " Don't Trust Anyone" and I have said to my children " Don't Trust Anyone ".

But it is mean't as, be aware, even of your friends, because they know you best.

But my children and I can be trusted, but we are aware of users and shifty dealers.

I think this is a good question, and I agree with the statement. It has nothing to do with locking your doors however. You don't have to be paranoid to think locking the door is a good idea, it's enough to believe that one person steals.

We're on the same page on this one, Promethean.

So what does that say about all those conservatives who are SURE that every welfare recipient is a rip-off artist?

What does it say about some people who always accuse Republicans of lying? Or about people who always accuse drug companies of blatant murder? How about people who make claims that their own government is the cause of everything evil in the world? What about people who think rich people are bad because they are wealthy? What does it say about people who are really negative in general, with rarely a good thing to say about anything or anyone and is constantly looking to blame someone for anything bad that happens to anyone?

All good points, jondough.

Odd that you didn't address the question, merely went on the attack.

How was my "attack" any different from doggys? Yet you have chosen to chastise my response to her statement?

However if you really care to know my opinion on the original statement, I would say that I have in mind a couple of older people who don't trust anyone except very close family (and maybe they don't trust them its just that they are family and they don't badmouth family)but who you could trust with any amount of money or count on them to do anything they said they would. Using both of these people as an example I would say that the original statement may be more true for some people than for others but on the whole I would disagree with the statement as a rule.
