Theme with thematic decor. Olive Garden is one of my favorites. Love the food, the decor, and the music.
I love food, well prepared food. I grew up in an expensive restaurant atmosphere, and while I do love beautiful decor, the food is the thing for me. If a restaurant cannot be beautiful, then it should at least not distract from the food.
I select a restaurant where I can enjoy a conversation with friends or relatives without loud music that prohibits conversation. I also judge a restaurant by the drinks that are served ...Lousy drinks...Lousy food
People may not realise but they prefer restaurants with red colours, because red makes peoples hungry and automatically attracted. It is the initial appearance of the restaurant that will draw them in, if they are just walking along the street.
Red is also the colour of romance which attracts couples and families.
If the food is great the decor doesn't matter at all. I'm not there to eat the wallpaper. :)
Of course in a restaurant where the cuisine is a theme in itself then the decor takes on some importance.
