Our entire office uses AVG. There is not a lot of dangerous website visiting, so it works fine.
I use AVG anti-virus free on my home computer. I've never had any problem. I also use Kerio firewall.
I use the free Avast, it has worked fine for me.

Eset NOD32 Antivirus or Security Suite if you want a firewall too.
Microsoft Onecare - you can have it on 3 computers under one licence. It improved the performance of all of my computers once installed. (can take a while to install)
