I make an effort to go watch new bands I have never heard of.

How do the bands you like get famous? Well it used to be people would go out and look for small unsigned bands that they enjoy. They then spread the word and its that buzz that helps the artist get famous.
Most bands have been working for years before you hear of them.
People need to start supporting local and unsigned artists more.
It costs less to get into a gig, probably have more bands on and you may find a band you like as much as your ready made one.
Without the support of people the smaller bands will eventually die away and there will be no one left to make new music.
It seems as if they just come out of the woodwork. There are so many new bands out these days I think every family must have a rock star wannabe in their midst. Nowadays they can record tracks in their basement and get a YouTube following, and sales, without ever appearing in public.

Why would I do that? I like to see bands I know I'll enjoy because I'm familiar with their music.
I think thats the problem.

I will watch a free high school baseball game before I pay to see a minor league team.
I'll watch a major league game on TV before I'll go watch a high school team play. Actually, I only did that when I was in high school.
