but in germany the law says 16 (wine an beer) 18 (everything)

and i want you to decide which age would be okay, and not the law, this time

I'll bet you do!

over here the law says 18, in some countries 16. so? how do you decide? if you would be a European, you would think 16 is perfect and as you are an US-citizen, now 21 is correct? what is your PERSONAL opinion?

My personal opinion doesn't matter a swat! But I do agree with 21 and in some cases NEVER (ie drunk drivers). And pray tell, what is so earth shatteringly important about pouring booze in your face and making a fool of yourself?

I don't know, I don't really drink.

You're pulling my leg. Killing people doesn't hurt anyone like drinking does. Oh, wait a second, it does!!! I guess they should both be the same age, either 18 to drink and kill, or 21 to drink and kill. I guess this poll will solve the question once and for all. I hope the bigwigs are surfing this site tonight.

you sir are a genious! I am talking about drunk drivers!!!!!!

Yes. I think you will find that more people are killed by drunk drivers than legally armed citizens.

None is best for all concerned.

This is a very difficult question to answer. I think it should be based on an individual bases just because of some kids being more mature than others. But for the sake of the argument I believe once you are done high school you should be able to drink legally, 18. Canada is pretty close with 19.

I'm very content with the current law in the U.S. - 21 years of age.

True. Or the army age should be the same as the drinking age ... if you're not old enough to drink, you're not old enough to kill. I bet that would get governments to rethink the drinking age real quick. Older folks are going to rethink what it means to get trained by the armed forces, for "free."

21.

If you agree with the law why not support it and why should anyone explain their answer to you?

You seem to imply that because a person agrees with the law, he is not thinking for himself. Usually the drinking laws come about by a vote of the people. I think there is some validity to the position that, if you can defend your country you, you can drink legally. But, someone would complain that this law would favor the military.

It probably has more to do with a certain amount of maturity level. Not that I was all that mature when I was 21.

It hardly matters if your drinking is slight to moderate. If your drinking is heavy then it's bad no matter what your age is. I think people legislate to keep young people from drinking for several reasons. Some people may think it will stunt your growth. Some think you will become too preoccupied with drinking to focus on making a living for yourself and a family. Some think it leads to unsafe behavior which may cut your life short long before your time. Some people vote against it because it's bad enough when a mom or dad is a regular drinker, but the family might be even more dysfunctional if everybody in the family did it.
