I guess it depends. If I had a dog or a cat I would spend some money to save its life (if it was not just a way to extend its suffering). Now I don't have those, I have guppies and tropical snails. It can be hard to see if a snail is ill let alone to track a qualified snail doctor in this part of the world! I guess in the end some animals are more "part of the family" than others.
Yeah. I had a pet caiman once and I hardly considered it part of the family. Any pet that would just as soon eat you as the meal you're feeding it is hard to get very attached to.

The very first time the thing decided it wanted his finger for dinner instead of the raw meat being offered that caiman joined the ranks of the alleged underground army of crocs, gators, and caimans long suspected of patrolling the sewers of New York, ...entering via the toilet route. :)

I spent much more than $1,000 for operations for each of my most recent pets.
Me too.

[1 point] 4 years ago by deleted user ReplyI had two cats for 17+ years. when they turned 17, one of them got this nasty cancer/anal abscess. the vet said they could operate for $1000, but it would most likely come back and her pain would increase and she would have to wear a colostomy bag. i just didn't want to put her though all that. i knew it would be a living hell for her.
I cried on the day i had to put her down. she had lost bowel control and it was only going to go down hill from there. when they gave her the adrenaline, i was saddened to see how strong she was, struggling under the two nurses holds. she made one last bawl, looking at me, as if to ask, "why?" :-(
my other cat missed the first one, and took to baying mournfully around the house for at least a year. i comforted her until she too was getting very old and weak. i brought her to the same vet on the day she died and she was so weak on the table that she could barely even sit up. i think the might not have lived another hour when she took her shot, and quietly left.
