$2.40 - $2.50 per gallon

Where I live (NYC) it is unbelievably outrageous, so much so that I buy gas in New Jersey. There it is $2.49 a gallon.

$2.86 per Gallon for 92 octane

Stop whining Americans.

Here its around S Kr 12 a litre which works out to US$ 6.40 for a US Gallon. How is that for 'outrageous' Sheep?

It is outrageous compared to New Jersey, of course, which not only does not impose the same taxes that New York does, but stipulates that car owners may not pump their own gas and forces the gas companies to hire employees to do the job.

I'd whine less if my health care was socialized and I was only paying $6.40 a gallon in gas. That would (and trust me, I drive ALOT) work out to a $2000 annual savings to me before I ever went to see one doctor or took one test.

How is that for outrageous, peterf?

Yep. That's sufficiently ourageous. But tell me is the gas station in Jersey owned by Tony Soprano?

*sigh*...I didn't even include the amount my employer is paying on my health insurance, which is 50%, and technically considered a benefit...Tony doens't own the gas stations. It is the pizza joints and the strip clubs you have to watch out for! ;-)

Thanks for the useful advice. I'll avoid the strippers but I do like pizza. so I'll just take the risk.

What level of income tax are you paying though?

Our socialised healthcare costs us about 33% income tax and 17.5% VAT (sales tax).

Would that still make you better off?

(I am not clued up on US tax levels to be honest).

VAT is 22.5% here. So stop that whining in Inglistan.

Amd soon we will have Mr President of Euroland to support, should be good for another 3% or so :(

At least it now seems umnlikely to be your Mr Bliar. And think of all the money we will save by not having one of those quaint old-fashioned things called 'elections'.

Really I should be whining! I pay 1,46 € per litre, so that is 2.16 $ a litre, which is 8,18 $ a gallon !

The USA doesn't have cars, taxis and trucks on car gas like we do, I was surprised because I thought we copied everything they do.

Our Gas/Petrol

$1.40 ltr....Aus $5.60 gallon
