How many visits to your psychologist ? Ask a Question

I had one once for a brief period of time. He gave me some different perspectives, gave me some good advice, gave me some bad advice. The good advice: "If you want unconditional love - get the saddest, quietest, loneliest looking dog at the pound. Take it home, feed it and it will love you unconditionally with all of it's heart as long as it lives."

The bad advice: "Consider living your life along more socially accepted norms."

My reply: "Like get married and have kids?"

Him: "Why not?"

At that moment, I pictured myself seated at a large dining room table with a husband and six kids and saying, "You know, this was my shrink's idea and I'm really sorry, but it's not working for me."

That's when I left therapy.

A psychologist? You mean the guy that shows you that crazy picture of the bear standing in front of the bathroom mirror shaving his beard? The guy who asks if one swallow makes a summer and you tell him you can't arrive at a conclusion on the basis of partial evidence? That bozo?

Yep, been there, done that, but only long enough for them to conclude my flights of fantasy were derivative from my brilliant intellect, or something almost as inane. :)
