It's not just the Mayans. There appears to be a lot of 'prophecy' indicating 2012 will be a very good year for something. If Obama gets selected as pres 4 more years of the current direction will .... If McCain pulls out the rabbit and is selected the same direction will bring the world to the same 2012. Either way the birthing pains will produce something... the petty pace of history has picked up. Even in the worst of times many did well. Opportunity for success is at its highest in times just like now. Perhaps if the 60-70% of the middle could get behind the next president, whoever it may be, all the troubles would disappear. Why waste the energy on a war. How about getting behind the next guy to do what works best for everyone. That would require something different than the media going after ratings and advertising dollars. That would take something more important than 'party' loyalty and the long standing .... decades of fault finding and being right versus looking for what works best. Do any world leaders enjoy significant support of their population? What are they doing that is making a difference? Where is that story instead of the constant sliming of all sides by all sides.
Whoever becomes President will be President until 2013. December 21, 2012 is said to be the end of the Mayan calendar, but just like the Gregorian calendar which ends on December 31st every year, so the Mayan Calendar will begin again on December 22, 2012. When a calendar comes to the end of a cycle, it just rolls over into the next cycle. In our Western society, every year December 31 is followed, not by the End of the World, but by January 1. So 13.0.0.0.0 in the Mayan calendar will be followed by 0.0.0.0.1 - or good-ol' December 22, 2012, with only a few shopping days left to Christmas.
