United States
The footage was from another rally entirely--the one where a Fox NEws producer was caught stage-managing the crowd.

Yet you are prepared to believe that there were a million men that the "Million Man March" that CNN plastered all over the airwaves for two weeks when even the best estimates where much lower than a million people and the National Parks Service estimated the crowd at 400,000.
Hannity is not a news correspondent. He is a talk show host. Just like Rush Limbaugh. His job is to entertain while explaining, defending and debating his views. While he does include some new headlines in his show that does not make it a news show.
When did she say that?
Too bad the people who listen to Fox don't make that distinction.

Thats just it! I think people who do listen to Hannity and people who listen to Rush KNOW that it is more opinion and entertainment than fact. Of course there are facts mixed in but its not presented as news its presented as a commentary on the news.
Its the people who don't listen to them that seem to misunderstand what is going on. I'm sure there are people out there that believe 99% of everything Hannity and Rush say is FACT...but then again, there are some of you who believe that 99% of everything Obama, Clinton and Sharpton says is fact.
Living in West Virginia, I get to hear different.

You would lose a lot of money on that one.
I doubt it
I don't watch or listen to ANY news. Mostly, I hear what people are talking about and then start looking it up.
You lose. Pay up.

Read-em and weep.....
It's not ok to lie to people just because you're not a news anchor.

Is it a lie to show footage that depicts a crowd that is larger than it really is? If so, as I pointed out earlier, CNN is just as guilty as FOX.
But if thats what your problem with Fox is all about then take a look at your local news channels. The do the exact same thing. They show close up shots of small crowds to make them look larger. They show tornado damaged areas up close to maximize the effect of the damage of a small area. They show only crying and upset people on the news when they want to tell you how upsetting and sad one story is and then they show you laughing and smiling people when they want to emphasize a feel good story. Almost all news today is sensationalized. If you think its just FOX then you need to take a look at the reasoning your using to justify that belief.
I agree that all media try to make things seem more dramatic than then they really are, but if I understand this correctly Hannity claimed that footage of one crowd was footage of an entirely different crowd. That's a little more serious than simple exaggeration - that's a lie.
It could be a mistake?? It may not have been Hannitys fault the wrong footage was shown? It may have been the producer or an intern or who knows??
My question to you is do you think the entire story was a lie? Do you think that there were really NO people at the rally? Maybe there was not even a rally at all? Maybe the whole thing was a lie? Did he say that there were a million people maybe more and there and there were really only 400,000??
I think there were very few people at the rally. That in effect, it was a wet firecracker. And that Fox was so upset by the small turnoput, they tried to make it look much bigger than it was. Because they understand completely the herd instinct, that making something popular will, all by its lonesome and FOR NO OTHER REASON increase its support among the general public. Although there may be other reason, perception of popularity is sufficient on its own.
And that's why they lied.

[-6 points] 2 years ago by deleted user ReplyI didn't even see the show, so I don't know how correct it was. Of course it might not have been Hannity's fault. I very much doubt an intern tried to forge footage to support Hannity's opinions, but sure, it could have been the producer or someone else.
I could have been, but the producer was not publicly tied to the success of the tea parties.
Im not trying to say its ok for him to out and out lie either. You would hope he would have more integrity than that. But realistically people make mistakes and even the great CNN is not immune.
Fox news has argued in court that they have the right to make up the news as they see fit, and fired two reporters who refused to lie.
They even got a Supreme4 Court decision saying that they don't have to report the news if they don't like it.
rBGH, right?
I have no proof that it was not a mistake, but like dauguy pointed out they have been managing the tea party controversies, making this "mistake" unlikely -- http://mediamatters.org/blog/200909180037

Sean admitted that Jon Stewart was right and that he was wrong. BHO should learn such humility.
It just shows that Hannity understands the IQ level is of his target audience...
As for Obama, when he showed humility and apologized he was called an appeaser.

Wrong again, little buddy. BHO loves to apologize to everybody about America. He NEVER apologizes for himself... or his own actions.
He has apologized to the chairman of the Special Olympics, for his late-night talk show quip equating his bowling skills to those of athletes with disabilities. So (as usual) it is you who does not have the facts.

You'll have to do much better than that, little buddy. Given all of Obama's barbs, half-truths and outright lies, you're going to base your "case" on a one-on-one, behind-the-scenes telephone conversation following a stupid joke? If that's the best you've got, the prosecution rests its case! :-)

[3 points] 2 years ago by deleted user ReplySo he "inadvertently" falsified, my mistake.
They ran the wrong footage. The mistake was pointed out. They acknowledged the mistake.
What's the issue? Show me any other network that hasn't made the same mistake at some point.
It's only a mistake if it is not done on purpose. Too bad it took Jon Stewart to recognize the footage and point out the 'mistake'. One would think that such an ardent supporter could tell the difference between the national 9/12 rally and their very own tea party. But perhaps he never saw their own coverage before it aired?
Get over it, he lied and got caught.
I take it you have proof that this was done on purpose or should we just take your word for it?
Will you be just as ardent to accuse MSNBC of lying when they air incorrect footage?
Probably. She doesn't watch them either.
Maybe you should ask Dan Rather...
