It doesn't matter if he lied about it, Fox is still reporting the news.
See, Fox really ISN'T a news channel. It is the propaganda arm of the conservatives.

The footage was from another rally entirely--the one where a Fox NEws producer was caught stage-managing the crowd.

When did she say that?

Too bad the people who listen to Fox don't make that distinction.

Living in West Virginia, I get to hear different.

Fox New is the channel....the channel has several programs on it that are not news but it does carry news primarily. I would bet that the news on Fox is just as accurate as whatever news you watch or listen to.

You would lose a lot of money on that one.

I doubt it

I don't watch or listen to ANY news. Mostly, I hear what people are talking about and then start looking it up.

You lose. Pay up.

It's not ok to lie to people just because you're not a news anchor.

I agree that all media try to make things seem more dramatic than then they really are, but if I understand this correctly Hannity claimed that footage of one crowd was footage of an entirely different crowd. That's a little more serious than simple exaggeration - that's a lie.

It could be a mistake?? It may not have been Hannitys fault the wrong footage was shown? It may have been the producer or an intern or who knows??

My question to you is do you think the entire story was a lie? Do you think that there were really NO people at the rally? Maybe there was not even a rally at all? Maybe the whole thing was a lie? Did he say that there were a million people maybe more and there and there were really only 400,000??

I think there were very few people at the rally. That in effect, it was a wet firecracker. And that Fox was so upset by the small turnoput, they tried to make it look much bigger than it was. Because they understand completely the herd instinct, that making something popular will, all by its lonesome and FOR NO OTHER REASON increase its support among the general public. Although there may be other reason, perception of popularity is sufficient on its own.

And that's why they lied.

I didn't even see the show, so I don't know how correct it was. Of course it might not have been Hannity's fault. I very much doubt an intern tried to forge footage to support Hannity's opinions, but sure, it could have been the producer or someone else.

I could have been, but the producer was not publicly tied to the success of the tea parties.

Im not trying to say its ok for him to out and out lie either. You would hope he would have more integrity than that. But realistically people make mistakes and even the great CNN is not immune.

Fox news has argued in court that they have the right to make up the news as they see fit, and fired two reporters who refused to lie.

They even got a Supreme4 Court decision saying that they don't have to report the news if they don't like it.

rBGH, right?

I have no proof that it was not a mistake, but like dauguy pointed out they have been managing the tea party controversies, making this "mistake" unlikely -- http://mediamatters.org/blog/200909180037

It just shows that Hannity understands the IQ level is of his target audience...

As for Obama, when he showed humility and apologized he was called an appeaser.

He has apologized to the chairman of the Special Olympics, for his late-night talk show quip equating his bowling skills to those of athletes with disabilities. So (as usual) it is you who does not have the facts.

So he "inadvertently" falsified, my mistake.

They ran the wrong footage. The mistake was pointed out. They acknowledged the mistake.

What's the issue? Show me any other network that hasn't made the same mistake at some point.

It's only a mistake if it is not done on purpose. Too bad it took Jon Stewart to recognize the footage and point out the 'mistake'. One would think that such an ardent supporter could tell the difference between the national 9/12 rally and their very own tea party. But perhaps he never saw their own coverage before it aired?

Get over it, he lied and got caught.

I take it you have proof that this was done on purpose or should we just take your word for it?

Will you be just as ardent to accuse MSNBC of lying when they air incorrect footage?

Probably. She doesn't watch them either.

Maybe you should ask Dan Rather...
