I could almost see your point if it were the US government that spent that much money on video games. However the money came from individuals and probably 50% of those people refuse to spend a dime on health insurance for themselves but will buy video games, big screen TV's, beer, cigarettes and fast food instead and hope that the government will tax the rich and pay for their health care when they get sick.
You must have a math and logic problem. This isn’t evidence that we can afford it.
First this was sales from people from all over the world, not just the US; and it was private sales/money that paid for these games. Second, it was a record breaking onetime event not something that happens every 5 days. Third, if you took all that money ($500 Million) it equals $1.80/person. What kind of health care are you going to buy/get for $1.80? A band-aid and some ointment?

Indeed. If your figure is true it casts much doubt. I can't believe people are so selfish as to piss away a half billion dollars every five days which could be put to such good use.
You can not be serious, so we are supposed to forgo all of our spending with "OUR" money just to prevent someone from dieing from lack of basic medical care. It is "someones" responsibility to be responsible for their basic medical care.
If we are here to take care of others, then what are the others here for?
sociopath: is a personality disorder whose hallmark is a lack of empathy. Robert Hare, renowned researcher in the field describes psychopaths as "intraspecies predators who use charm, manipulation, intimidation, sex and violence to control others and to satisfy their own selfish needs. Lacking in conscience and empathy, they take what they want and do as they please, violating social norms and expectations without guilt or remorse"
I think you missed his point, so I'll ask it another way. Is it proper in our society to spend the money we worked for to provide for people that are not willing to do the things necessary for their own health care?

So you don't spend any of your money on yourself beyond basic necessities? 100% of everything else you have goes to charities to help others and the government (since I'm assuming you consider the government a charitable organization). No TVs, no computers, no VCRs, no games. Is that true, or are you a hypocrite for calling those who spend their money on a game selfish while you let someone die for lack of basic medical care?

I wouldn't know about that. I can't even afford my annual blood tests, Pap. mammogram, dental checkup, etc. And I HAVE health care. I must, they take 25% of my monthly income for it every fucking month.
Just so long as we are clear. You are saying that no one should have any disposable income as long as someone can't afford medical care themselves. You basically think the rest of us should be slaves to raise money to pay for everyone's medical care.
The game earned about $500 million in its first 5 days. That's worldwide sales and that's probably a majority of what it is going to make in total. But let's say that was all us sales and that it will keep happening again and again every five days. If you take all that money and divide it up evenly among everyone in the US it is about $1.80/5 days/person or about $135 total a year for you heath care. WOW! Enjoy your heath care.
Can we stop being jealous of others and what they spend their own money on now. It isn’t your money to decide it has a better use.

In nature, the Great Pyrenees is confident, gentle, and affectionate. While territorial and protective of flock or family when necessary, the general demeanor is one of quiet composure, both patient and tolerant. The Great Pyrenees is strong willed, independent and somewhat reserved, yet attentive, fearless and loyal to flock and family.
World wide sales or just in the USA?
It is world wide, and it isn't every five days it is the first five days after the the release of a major new game that has been eagerly anticipated.

The point being that crying 'we can't afford it' is stupid in the face of evidence like this that we can, indeed, afford it.

Selfish!?! So if I spend $50 of my money that I worked for and earned to buy my self one video game I'm being selfish?
If you are letting someone die for lack of basic medical care, yes, you are.

There is a word--or rather, a diagnosis--for people who think that satisfying their every whim is more important that another person's life.
Sociopathy.

Yup. Wouldn't you say that describes someone who thinks that satisfying the whim to own a game is more important than another person's life?
And that is not what he said.

wow - good observation
'Kind of suggests people could afford health care if they weren't so self-indulgent, eh?
No. It suggests that you can't do math.

Not really. I doubt that the largest number of sales went to people who couldn't afford health care.
Spent on a lot of video games or just one video game?

Holy Izodius!
It's probably worse to live without video games than to live without health care. xD
I would have to agree. It is possible to LIVE without video games, but often NOT possible to live without health care.
