I strongly disagree. What if it's a family of six and mom and pop both work, all of the kids attend a university in town and drive to school. When the kids get out of school they all have to drive to work. My opinion: 6 people with drivers' licenses should own 6 cars.

For instance, if my parents both had their own car and I needed one to go at school or at work, they would have to drive me there, come back home, then pick me up and come back once again. Now that takes a lot of gas.
If we had a third car, I would only have to drive there and come back, which is a lot greener if we think about it, and much more convenient for the parents.

Global warming is the biggest crock going. According to an article I read in the newspaper, 12% of scientists believe in global warming, while 52% dont and say that we are in a cooling cycle. It 5degrees out now with a wind chill below zero. I'm in the northest, not at the Arctic Circle.
It's interesting that not one voter in the UK strongly disagrees whereas over 60% of US citizens either disagree or strongly disagree with this dicussion..
Is the credit crunch affecting the UK consumer..? has the UK government has finally won and beaten its public in to submission..? - for those who don't know, the average Joe in the UK is the most heavily taxed gas consumer in the world, with the govt taking approx 70% on each purchase.
Maybe this just hits a nerve with the US contingent here. The thought of having limitations on how many vehicles you can own..!!! must break with a constitutional right somewhere.
Also interesting to note that the lower your income the more likely to strongly disagree with this statment.
Just for the record, i love my car(s) and dont buy in to the "i should feel guilty about the poor polar bears getting stranded on iceburgs because i use it too much gas argument. If the green lobby want global warming to stop, try turning the setting down on the sun, and plugging a few volcanos (i can think of a win win here... 1000 green voters should make a good enough plug and relieve us of a bunch of wingers)
just a thought - does someone somewhere collect all of the carbon footprint taxes and offer it up to a sun god or something..? it srtikes me as odd that any government honestly thinks that we the public believe that throwing money at a naturally occuring phenomina will do anything. It is about as pointless a notion as i have ever heard. Is there an earthquake tax in California..? or a tornado tax in the midwest? or a sunburn tax in florida..? or a bird flu tax in asia..? Why do we put up with it and keep them in office...???

Green is as Green does. This suggestion is without logic of any kind.
Consumption of resources is the problem. Ever heard of a carbon footprint? Owning 10 cars doesn't mean that I will consume as much resources as someone with 1 car.
Science and Math lesson for the day.
True Story: I get 25 mpg, my friend gets 50mpg. I live 5 miles from work, he lives 50. Who has a bigger carbon footprint.
