In a capitalistic society that believes in a free market economy, yes. Business must be regulated to a certain extent. That's why anti-trust laws, profiteering laws (they prosecuted some gas stations in KY that raised their fuel to $5 a gallon on 9/11), price fixing laws, that's why they exist. Otherwise we would have big business gathering, putting their heads together and figuring out how to suck every last dollar out of our pockets. They'll let us decide if we want fuel, or food. It's not their problem if we can't afford both. It's a free country, so we're free to make our own decisions. Perhaps you should decide to get a job that pays more. They're only beholden to the stockholders. The bigger the profits - the bigger the return. Who cares where it comes from?
You know, I have no clue what the WTO is. Does anybody else know?

I also suggest "Confessions of an Economic Hit Man" by John Perkins.
Some interviews with him:

There is also an excellent hour-long interview with him as Part One of a four=part series,"Speaking Freely," available through Netflix.

Although he worked for private industry, the WTO, World Bank, and IMF all work hand-in-glove with big business. It's in interesting perspective on what our "aid" really does.
All the companies are merging. There is no such thing any more as price compitition. As long as the people keep paying the high prices, the prices will rise. Stop buying the over price goods and watch how the prices start falling or how many "overstocked goods must go" sales start opening up.
agree.
Read the Constitution. Yes, government has a duty to regulate interstate commerce, but their role is limited and specificaaly spelled out. Government, however has no responsibility or duty, whatsoever, to "help the poor". Every society since history has been recorded has had the poor, some by circumstance, some by choice. It is not the governments role to take money from the citizenry to redistribute the wealth in an effort to eliminate poverty. It is the poor's duty to make every effort to bring themselves out of poverty. It has been accomplished many, many times and it can still be done.
Now, revsteve, surely you sense by now that most will deny or ignore The Constitution if it can't provide freebies. They deserve the security of a Nanny State. Freedom is just another word.....
