There are many countries in the world where citizens have less to fear from their government than in the USA. Sweden, Norway, Denmark, The Netherlands, France, Monaco, Lichtenstein, Switzerland, and Canada, off the top of my head.
And that is a pretty good functional definition of freedom.

Exactly my point, I live in the Netherlands and I think this society is more free than that of the US in many respects. (In some the US is though).
I see that so far 14% of people in the US agree with this absurd proposition.
