How would you keep education from becoming indoctrination in that event?

He didn't say "government controlled", he said "government funded". Turn off the Fox News Channel for once...

Again: How do you prevent that from happening if government is the only source of education funding? Haven't you ever heard the "He who pays the piper calls the tune?"

And you should really research people before you try and insult them.

A) I do not watch TV at all, much less FOX.

B) As I have stated repeatedly, if one HAD to give me a political affiliation, anarcho-syndicalist or libertarian socialist would be close.

C) I know you don't know what those are:

So state colleges indoctrinate?

They are partially federally funded.

You didn't read her first sentence, did you?

Huh?

"if government is the only source of education funding"

And the question says "Fully Government funded."

Pay attention, there will be a test later.

Oops. ...duh, 'got me! ;)

Wow, did you ever miss the mark with that comment.

AAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAAAA!

...phew...thanks for the laugh! Now go read her other comments.

It's not a problem in Norway at least. The closest we come to "government indoctrination" in school is an overdeveloped sense of political correctness - it can be annoying, but I doubt it's harming anyone.

I don't see why schools controlled by a democratic government should be more totalitarian in nature than private schools. In any real democracy, the government changes hands too often for any one political bloc to have a lasting control anyway.

I wouldn't know, not living in a real democracy.

Here, the national myth is part and parcel of what is taught, and business is going to outstrip government as a provider of educational materials and funding very soon, if it hasn't already. Think we'll EVER see an honest treatment of, say, the labor movement in this country under those circumstances? How about an honest treatment of exactly what has happened in the Middle East for the past 100 years or so?

where is all that money comimg from????

the Government will tax something to make up this burden. They can also dictate what is taught aand what is not. I do thinkthat the GVT should subsidize with a certain amount of money each year, but choll boards must be accountable for that money and no over budgets.

In the USA, free to its citizens. Foreigners/noncitizens pay up their nose to get top level education as they will take their skills home.

No, it is NOT free to citizens. If it were, there would be no such thing as Pell grants or student loans.

Learning a skill is also not education. That is vocational training.

It depends on the circumstances. I think it should be free for children from poor families for instance. On the other hand I do not think university (or other kinds of education that will let you earn a lot of money afterwards) need to be free at all. So no, not all education should be free.

As is usually the case I agree with you Pollewop. Higher education should not be 'fully funded'; susidised maybe.

In Botswana parents pay very modest sums towards even primary education. The argument is, and I think it a good one, that what people pay for they value,

I agree with this on the state level, while taking into account dauguy's observation - it shouldn't be the only source of funding. In-state students should be able to attend state universities for free, or pay to attend privately-run schools.
