But also with news about protecting our northern sovereignty, the extra patrols the current government created is great. However, this dose not seem defensive enough and a little weak to me. Now placing a military base at the North-West passage or higher will show the world Canada has a strong defense force in my opinion.
Nah, protect the ice bear or the seals from nuclear powered and armed submarines? Blowing them out of the water (Harper campaigned on that) would do more damage then leaving the place alone. The only two nations interested in the region are the U.S. and Russia. Neither one Canada has a chance of defeating in a war. Cheaper option is to make sure the people in the region are healthy, educated and given a sense they are Canadians and important (like all people). Let them trade with their cousins in Russia and the U.S. Basically deal with the people in the region fairly and honestly.
