[1 point] 4 years ago by deleted user ReplyI love Canadians. Especially informed ones. He is George Jr. God save us from the Christians! (lol)
Yes, but he'd better save the last bullet for himself. ;o)
I am a Christian. And a Christian who believes in the Bible literally. But Huckabee scares the dickens out of me. When he said we should change the constitution to match the Bible, he sounded just like one of the Imams calling for the strict adherence to sharia law in Muslim countries. I want people to recognize the truth of the Bible on their own. NO ONE can be forced into it, nor should they be penalized by civil law for not doing so.
"literally"? as in stoning and no rights for women and not growing different crops in the same field and not shaving your beard or hair? literally?
I'm sorry but you just don't know what literally means when you make a comment like that. If I were an Old Testament Hebrew, then maybe those would apply. But since Christ came, and died, and rose, some things have changed.
I missed that remark. Was he referring to the Protestant bible, the Catholic bible, the Greek-Aramaic bible? I just ask because I was wondering which translation is he planning to say most closely matches the thinking of a Huckabee?
I'm sorry Chip, I don't quite understand your comment, and what it is you are asking. And you might not even be talking to me. If that is the case then please ignore me, otherwise please restate the question so I can have a shot at answering it.
You said Huckabee wants to change the Constitution to match the Bible. Which Christian denomination's Bible does he want it to match? The Catholic's Bible? The Lutheran's Bible? The Mormon's Bible? Or some ancient version of the Bible. I think if he were to change it to match only one sect's Bible he would be asking for trouble.
OK, thank you, now I understand what you are saying, and it is one of my fears also. But even if we were to all miraculously agree on which Bible to use, I still would not want civil law to be dependent on the Bible. Based on yes, but not dependent.
Our founding fathers based much of our law and the constitution on Christian values and the Bible. The term "Seperation of church and state" is not in our constitution. James Madison the chief architect of the constitution is quoted "We have staked the whole future of the American civilization, not upon power of governent, far from it. We have staked the future...upon the capacity of each and all of us to govern ourselves, to control ourelves, to sustain ourselves according to the Ten Commandments of God.
You are correct we have BASED our law on Christian values and the Bible, but we haven't written it in obedience of Biblical Law.

[1 point] 4 years ago byi hope not. we've had enough of "faith-based" politics in the last 8 years. and see where it has landed us?
I seriously hope not. I am tired of "faith" being involved with politics.
Yeah. Where's this separation of church and state? Or does that phrase just mean they can't pass a collection plate while Congress is in session?
that phrase seems to mean whatever the religious right wants it to mean based on what is going on at the time. sort of like how they pick and choose what to believe and apply from the bible to meet their needs.
... hey now, I love my invisible pink unicorn!
Well the Inquisitors of the Dark Ages interpreted their Bible to mean anything they wanted it to mean, which is why Galileo was tortured until he admitted the sun really does revolve around the earth. If Catholics were that stupid 400 years ago if is conceivable to think there are other Christian sects that still have similar ridiculous ideas. Fortunately they don't torture people anymore for not believing the same as they believe.
John Jay our first Chief Justice of the Supreme Court said "No human society has ever been able to maintain both order and freedom and both cohesiveness and liberty apart from the moral precepts of the Christian Religion allied and accepted by all the classes. Should our republic ere forget this fundamental precept of governance, men are certain to shed their responsibilities for licentiousness, and this great experiment will surely be doomed."
Huckabee has a shot with the religious extremists. I hate him, though. I don't want someone so religious as president.
