I couldn't agree more. In the Netherlands people of the same sex (not even necessarily gay!) have been able to marry for about 10 years now. A downside of this is that many politicians seem to think gays are now equal and no further action needs to be taken, while as a matter of fact discrimination and violence are on the rise.

Will it stop gay bashing? Don't be naive. But it is, as PhxMike points out, a step in the right direction.
