hardly never. once or 2x a year i take tylenol pm to deal with the aches & pains. but the best help for sleep is meditation - before sleep @ night & upon waking in the mornin'. works wonders for me!
I occasionally take something to sleep if I've had too much caffeine during the day. If I haven't eaten anything for several hours I'll take a dose of melatonin. If I have eaten then I'll take an antihistamine like diphenhydramine (25mg to 100mg) or doxylamine succinate (25mg to 50mg). I use the generic names because there are many OTC products to facilitate sleep which contain one or the other. To determine the dose I read what it says on the package and compare those instructions with info disclosed in clinical trials in medical journals. I always check online to see if there is a recommended loading dose (usually an amount different from what they print on OTC product packages -- usually the lowest possibly effective dose).
600mcg eh? And I thought 300mcg (same as 3mg, right?) was a large dose. I'll have to try 600mcg and see if I have better luck.
I know one thing though, when it does work it works better than Ambien. Ambien helps me get to sleep but I'm wide awake 3 or 4 hours later. Melatonin is usually good for at least six hours.

Have you ever tried acupuncture for your aches and pains? Acupuncture is helping me. Good luck and good health. :)
My daily blood pressure med makes me drowsy. I take it 45 minutes or so before bedtime.
