NO.They receive a VERY incomplete education. It is just terrible. A great sadness to me and it is a concern for future American society. If you are in the P.S system... get out. Home school, private school anything is probably better. And READ READ READ everything, in all areas. Learn to love learning.
Yeah, I am shocked that we would actually ask our schools to be accountable for their students (often poor) test results. (I AM ROLLING MY EYES RIGHT NOW IF YOU DIDN'T CATCH THE SARCASM). I am tired of people believing what they have been SELECTIVELY told.
Cant tell if you are for or against my comment. Where I live I have seen first hand kids with F's down their report cards being passed onto the next grade. Also seen it in other states. It isnt doing any child any good to pass them if 1. They dont try and fail knowing they will get passed. 2. Passing them if they clearing arent ready for the next grade.
The science standards are definitely very poor, basically because the religious wackos (i.e. proponents of Intelligent Design) want to teach their religious views as science and science as religion.
Thats because evolution is part of science and religions dont want to believe in evolution. To me religion should be taught with History because that is what it is. If God didnt want people to be scientific and find cures or answers to unexplained things he wouldnt of given anyone the knowledge to do so.
As a person who wants to become a history teacher, I think that the quality of education that a child gets in the United States is very poor. My US History says that if you don't learn history, you're going to repeat it. History books write paragraphs on events that should have whole chapters written about it. The Holocaust is one of those events. Very few people know much about it. There are many books written on it; I've pretty much all the books on the Holocaust from our library; but in the history books they don't say very much about it. More children become pregnant at a young age. Mostly it's because they don't care about their education.

The U.S. school system is just a huge national daycare system for kids aged 4 to 18.
They used to, now the standards are too low and the "No Child left behind" act is passing failing kids.
