Couldn't agree more. Our power is solely that of having the biggest nuclear arsenal, but economically, we have moved all the money into Asia.
We are not even able to develop new technologies. Corporations are risk-averse; they get 'new' stuff by stealing/buying it from individuals who are willing to take risks. Think the micro-computer. It wasn't developed by IBM, but by a lot of kids working in garages and basements. Corporations simply will not spend money on pure science, and now our government does not either. So that's it for new tech from the USA, and that is it for being an economic powerhouse.
I don't think it will matter much which individual country is the most powerful. I think the future is larger international power blocs.
China is more powerful than the US as the US caters to China -- whatever happened to human rights ?
That's what happens when you are deep in hock to another country.
