Great question. The volume boost used to drive me nuts... one of the reasons I prefer other media to TV.

Definitely. Most of the new HDTV systems have automatic volume leveling now. This is a step forward.

Thanks for the info - I've a new Sony Bravia which doesn't feature this, but I'm buying a new HDTV for the lounge - will look for this feature.

Yes! The "mute" button also represents a great alternative.

Magnavox lets taped content skip ad's. Higher volume is a problem and, yes, should be banned.

NO, this is FREE TV, if they cannot get your attention, unrestricted, then how will the shows be paid for? The fact that it bothers people is evidence that it is working. Don't ruin a good thing!

Rubbish - they have my attention - but it's an INTRUSION on my personal choice for listening to MY television in MY HOUSE at the volume level I HAVE SELECTED
