"If someone gave me $100, calmly and truthfully assured me it was with no strings attached, I would accept it, thank them and enjoy being $100 richer."

I'm going to guess the only people who would say no to that would be the ones who thought the giver was lying about the "no strings attached" part.

Interesting hypothesis. What about the Ubber rich people like Bill Gates who are trying to give their money away. Also I think some of the monks might turn down the money because they see money as being a string in and of itself. Somehow, I've got to imagine that at least one of them would be willing to turn down the gift.

No, I think they would take it. If for no other reason than to give it to someone else to ease their suffering.

ooo, your good!

There are ALWAYS strings attached.

If someone comes up to me and offers me a 1000Kronor for nothing I'll let you know if I take it. But neither you nor I should hold our breaths in anticpation.

Oh - I wasn't looking for reality. More like a question that everyone in the world would agree on. (lolol)

Fact? Sure.

Even some of the most basic things have crazy detractors. Take gravity as an example. Seems like a pretty widely accepted theory, but here is at least one nutball who seems to think that anti-gravity is what is actually holding us down.

Try to come up with a universally accepted fact and I bet we can find at least one person on the net who objects to its validity.

We just have to take very basic facts that people can't really have opinions on.

For instance, if I tell you that Paris is the capital of France, no one can disagree. You can be wrong, you can have no idea of what the answer is, but you can't disagree.

are you alive now?

HA!

But then there's those monks, you know ...

This is a much more challenging one. I suppose that there are zombie freaks or those with vampire fetishes who may actually believe that they are undead, but by alive I'm thinking more self aware. I've heard of people believing the the entire world revolves around them, but this would take the exact opposite of that view point. I'll have to think about this for a while to see if I can come up with a good example.

"are you human?"

"Do you answer questions on ask500?"

Ask500 is a great site, but 100% of the world hasn't visited it yet. As far as humanity goes, I'm pretty sure that there is a phobia with a name where someone doesn't believe that they are part of humanity, but here's a Yahoo! posting where at least 1 person would disagree.

there are many questions that can be answered 100% one way... for example:

"Do you have a brain"?

if someone says "no" you know he's lying...

or

"Do you always lie"?

if he says yes its a paradox ^^

and all kinds of facts you cant argue with for example "is most of the earth covered with water?"

The issue wouldn't be whether or not someone is right or wrong, but whether or not they believe something different then what seems to be apparent to the rest of the world. It's not exactly what you're looking for, but here is someone who believe that other people don't always have brains.

As far as your paradox goes, you've stumped me and likely changed my mind on my answer. An illogical person might be able to get past the circular reasoning, but now I'm not so sure that you can throw reason so far out the window that you couldn't craft a statement that someone can't help but agree or disagree with. Good job, you have stumped me.

yeah, i get what you're saying, leaving facts aside, opinions only?

i think there are opinion questions that can be decided one way only (assuming that all of the people taking the survey are telling the truth and not crazy or something abnormal)...

one example:

"would you agree to become a slave for the rest of your life, receive nothing for it and get beaten, raped and tortured midevil style every day?"

Now i dont believe there's one sane person who would say yes to that...

"Will you answer this question?", "Are you physically within the universe?", "Have you ever been to Neptune?", "Have you drank anything within the last 50 years?", etc.

If the universe doesn't exist, how could you be inside of it?

Planet earth calling Neptune.

It wasn't 50, but here's someone who went over 37 years without drinking.

"Our universe only exists as an abstract mathematical entity."? Doesn't matter what it is, you're still in it!

That guy never went to Neptune, I think Neptune is a bit cold for life.

It may have been 37 years and 111 days, it's still not fifty!

OK I will try again.

-There are people who believe that the world doesn't exist past what they see. If they can't see the universe, then it doesn't exist to them. I can't remember which philosophers came up with it, but it's the thing in our brains that makes kids think that the world can't see them if they close their eyes.

-If there are people who believe that they've been kidnapped and taken to outer space, there has to be at least one of them that thinks he stopped by Neptune.

-Here is a guy who wouldn't be able to say yes to whether he's gone 50 years without drinking.

Someone will always disagree, just to be different, or to force you to prove your point.
