Only the ones not eating conkers are likely too take it too seriously.

Maybe some, but if they didn't it would mean more enjoyment for them.

I lived in Germany for 11 years shortly after WWII and initially went to a British school in Osnabrueck, where we were the only Americans. I rode to school in a lorry and got hit in the head by a conker, a wonderfully descriptive word for a shelled horse chestnut! By the time I went to an American school in Germany in '51 (age 10) I knew more about English kings and queens than American presidents and celebrated Guy Fawkes Day.... Came back on home leave in '53 and honestly was surprised I didn't have to pull out my passport to go from state to state...
