I absolutely think she is right, especially about the people saying these things overestimating the emotional maturity or balanced state of mind of the people hearing them (paraphrase).
With all due respect to your opinion, that assessment will hurt the Democrats in the long run.
Most people in the tea parties believe that they are reining in government. That message tends to get lost when the Republican strategists use them to prove opposition to Obama, Democrats note the Republican strategists and mistake it for a Republican movement to discredit Obama, and the mainstream media notes the sensational extremists, then stresses those because it's more exciting.
When the message gets lost, people tend to get even more revved up and vocal. Then they throw the rascals out. Democrats are the rascals this week. Republicans were the rascals last week. Many folks (including me) believe that both parties have too many rascals. We just want to throw the rascals out and not replace them with rascals from our own side.
To react as if it is anything else hurts the Democrat party and the Republican party and the mainstream media.
The US has had one major and many minor civil wars throughout its history, the most recent ones would be the Black Panthers and the Weathermen --- people were killed in those activities.
Nope. Beck and company joined in after it started. I know that YOU don't believe that it started as a grassroots movement, but it did. You may not be able to see it because of all the Dems trying to stop it and the Repubs trying to take it over. It may not even stay a grassroot movement, but you show your lack of access to solid information when you call it AstroTurf.
I don't have any particular political affiliation but will attach myself to certain issues. I don't like "jargon" to describe people or issues, like "liberal"; I think it's lazy and replaces critical thinking. I read a lot and I put polls up on issues when I want to compare my opinions against those of others. Often I'm surprised and that's what I like about Ask500. I'm back in Maine (thank god) now after having spent 8 months in Germany and 6 weeks in Krakow, Poland. I did go back to Poland, near Warsaw, for six weeks but am back. I'm home for good now.
After years of mostly ending up on the "liberal" side of things, I'm tending right a little over this illegal immigration issue and I'm becoming more jaded about our Congress. I have to fight feeling hopeless about our country.

She is 100% wrong. Ask Timothy McVeigh.

[3 points] 2 years ago by deleted user ReplyYep. It was rhetorical. McVeigh too was very surprised that people did not join him in war against the federal government.
Oklahoma City is my home town, so I have the same kind of attitude and interest that most New Yorkers have about the World Trade Center.
Some? Yes.
Many? No. Not many at all.

I do hope Democrats misread the situation as bad as you, though. And it has nothing to do with BlackOrchid.

Never mind. I'm asking the wrong person.
You mean, do it AGAIN?
Sure.

Maybe, if Glenn Beck keeps pressing their buttons.
Naw. It's a grass roots kind of thing. Beck was just the first national media person to recognize it and join in.
