I'll answer with a question. Would a holiday to calibrate white history and accomplishments, or charities to help only whites in need, would these be considered racist or hateful or help keep racism alive?
The answer to the above question is the same answer to the question for this poll.
Yes..we will never be equal unless EVERYTHING is offered to ALL people, no matter what color. Who would scream out loud if we had a "White Miss America" or a college fund with one of the requirements that you have to be WHITE? We all know the answer to that.
I think you misunderstood what I was saying. I work every day. I don't understand why we CAN have a Black USA pageant and scholarships offered to people who are ONLY blace. What would be said if the same were offered to people with a stipulation that they could only be WHITE? The whole non-white population would be screaming....but, the whites just sit there and let it happen.
Odd how we perceive "black" scholarships as racist, but we don't notice the scholarships offered to left-handed people, Catholics, Protestants, Hungarians, Daughters of the American Revolution, Decedents of the Huguenots, etc. that way. The problem is for blacks, if they are the decedents of slavery, they've lost all other ethnic identity other than their skin color. Whites have the same types of 'old-boy' networking, but, since we're the largest segment of American society, we've broken ourselves into smaller groups. Then we get upset when they work amongst themselves to promote the betterment of each other in the same way through the only unifying cultural identification they have - the color of their skin.

no - I think all ethnicities enjoy having their 'festivals of pride' (i.e. St. Patrick's Day) It's a time when we can all 'join in' and be part of their heritage for that day.
Also in the UK is the Orange book prize. Open only to women writers. Sexist in the extreme and a prime example of women devaluing themselves. Just as 'blacks' only awards devalues anyone who skin happens to be brown.
No more than white Columbus Day, or in older times white Lincoln's and white George Wasington's birthday holidays helped keep it alive. They were white ya know. :-`)
I don't the US has one that honors hot blondes. What's your point?
King is not honored because of his color, he is honored because he helped free the slaves 100 years after Lincoln tried to free the slaves. King was successful. Lincoln was not. It took more blood, many more years of degradation, and many years period to get where they are today. Are you trying to say if KIng was white he would not be honored at much?
If so, then damn, that is racist indeed!

Holidays are to honour a special occasion.
Charity is to help people in need.

But they were not honoured BECAUSE they were white.
I dont think you have a holiday in the US honouring anyone with ginger hair. Time to invent one?
