what's wrong with honouring and supporting troops and their service to the public.

why does it have to be dependent on supporting a war?

It's hypocritical and a lie. If you insist on publicly criticizing the war you are giving aid and comfort to the enemy. You can tap dance around that all die, but you know it's true.

Sorry, die should read day.

I am sure there are circumstances that might cause me to disagree with a decision to go to war with another country. I would, however, make my disagreement known to my elected officials. I would not denigrate my country or its leaders and military personnel because I know that our enemies would sieze upon such public pronouncements and use it as propoganda to further their cause.

Invade Mexico...that might not be a bad idea. They are certainly invading us.

No, MikeHend, I don't know its true. I have honored each of my fellow soldiers since I served in the 1970's and have not once agreed with my President's deployment of them. Too often (from Viet Nam to Iraq and Granada in between) troops have fought and died, or worse, came home permanently damaged, for NO justifiable reason other than to cover up a foreign policy disaster on OUR part. We needed to clean out Hussein only because he was a disaster which we created. More than 1,100,000 dead Iraqi later, we look to the world like we've committed genocide. Not an honorable way to support our dedicated and patriotic troops.

Outstanding answer phase!

So, one insecure egomaniac decides to commit our lives and fortunes and, as patriots, were expected to say nothing? Is this your idea of a Representative Republic? Wow. Maybe they teach high school Civics class differently these days. For me, the words of Jefferson, Paine, Hamilton, Franklin, Adams, et. al. are justification enough to speak as a true patriot against the unjustifiable deployment, on foreign soil and against International Law, of our young men and women. Support our Republic. Speak to Power.

No one egomaniac makes such a decision. It is a joint decision amongst Executive and Legislative branches of our government. A President can make a decision to respond to a threat, but must have approval from congress to continue such actions. Remember, the congress votes the monies for military actions.

Out of curiosity, have you, phase, treborski and/or MikeHend served your Country in any capacity yet?

Yes, Air Force. Honorably discharged in 1973.

Yes, 20 years in Air Force and served one tour in Viet Nam. You?

Thanks for your reply. I was curious not judgmental. Air Force here, too. Discharged honorably in 1973. Nixon ended the Viet Nam War before I finished pilot training and my tour was ended early. Not trying to out-macho anyone. IMO you paid your dues and have a right to an opinion that is more respected because you have served and know from experience why you believe as you do. No armchair chickenhawk, you! However, I respectfully agree to disagree with you, sir. Salute ...

Appreciate your service too teotwawki. I did not approve of how we prosecuted that war. Johnson and Robert Strange McNamara did not fight to win. It's one of those funny situations where we won all the battles but lost the war. And it was a loss.

I am behind the troops. Having served in Vietnam I know what moral is all about. However I am against this war..as I was vietnam. But I still served. I honor the troops coming home..far more than I was honored upon my arrival home. Still against this war though

Thats why I send my friends $$ to up-armor their vehicles and buy black market body armor. Thats why I send Care Packages and letters of support. Thats why I want them home; to keep them from failing an impossible mission. When I served, my ONLY interest was not getting shot! For that reason, I support bringing our soldiers home NOW.

Simple. Is it in the troops' interests to keep them there indefinitely, or to bring them home to be with their families?

I'm a navy brat with family that still serves the US military. I support my troops but that doesn't mean I support a war. One is men and women who fight and die. There other is a policy. To see all the people who think that putting a yellow sticker on their car supports our troops, please. Were they even made in the US? Do you think that money goes some how to our troops?
