Don't be silly.
The same logical thought that can lead to atheism contravenes materialism.
Rational thinking and an unwillingness to believe nonsense leads to atheism.
And pretty much points out the weaknesses of a materialist society, such as ours. Replacing sermons and services with advertisements and infomercials does nothing to free the mind.
One has NOTHING to do with the other. I know and have met Atheists and they are all the furthest from materialism that one can get. This is just another way for those who do have a religion to find wrong in everybody who chose not to follow religion. The accusation is pure BS.
Don't be silly gemonly4u. Materialist have a different god. That makes them Heathens, not Atheists.
Still got that TV?
Yeah, but I don't have private worship there or public worship at the Mall.
So? You are still subscribing to the TRUE American god. The one people TRULY believe in. The one they build the biggest temples EVER to. The one they give all their money to. The one they go into debt to support. The one that they have a small altar to in every room of the house (if they can, of course).
No one spends more money at church than they do in malls, on things advertised on TV, that they don't really need, and could obtain for far less if they didn't have to have the seal of holy approval, I mean, right logo.
Heathen - One who adheres to the religion of a people that does not acknowledge the God of Judaism, Christianity, or Islam.
Thanks for making my point B^)
Still got that TV. Your thinking shows it.
Yeah, but I still don't worship there, if that's your point.
My original point, which you thought you were disputing, was that Materialism could be defined as a religion. You pointed out how that could be the case. What's the point about the TV and malls if it's not to support my point about Materialism being a religion widely practiced in the Western world?
As long as you watch commercial TV, you ARE worshiping there.
Sorry to misunderstand, but I define worship real different than you do.
It defines your life. That's as good a definition as any. You even said you buy your daughter's stuff based on logo, did you not?
No, Materialism doesn't define my life any more than the cars I drive. I don't remember saying that I bought my daughter stuff based on Logo, but to the extent that it is bad stewardship, if I did, I am sorry and will pray for forgiveness.
Fish don't think water defines their life either. If you shop in malls, watch TV, buy logo products, keep upgrading your old tech toys with news, etc., you are swimming in it. Your lack of perception that that is the case only proves how ubiquitous and successful it is.
Well, we were this close (thumb and forefinger being held 1 mm apart) Sorry we couldn't see eye to eye on this.
Nope... Catholic churches are filthy rich but I don't think priests & all are atheists :D
