Personally i would say there is more chance of me becoming King of Spain, but then again, never say never, certainly things have happened that I never thought possible, in my lifetime.
Fall of Berlin wall, majority rule in South Africa without a civil war, and a black guy about to govern America!
Anything seems possible, but I just don't see this one happening, unless the people can get enough freedom to organise a credible opposition.
Pretty much nobody has any real and valid reason to have a gun in their house, people who shoot for sport can keep their weapons at their shooting club. Do you really think the moronic masses should have access to firearms? I'm much happier knowing that they don't personally.
Yeah, but if guns aren't illegal, it'll be considerably easier and probably cheaper for outlaws to get guns, one might even speculate that more of them will use them. I honestly don't see the need at all. Not for personal protection or as the Americans would have it, as protection against a government. Couldn't trust half the fuckwits in this country to rise up in organised rebellion against a government so that's pointless. And lets be fair, just because there are rules in place over gun ownership doesn't mean the wrong people wont get hold of them. That nutbar in Dunblane did, and the one in Hungerford and any number of going postal nutters the world over. I don't think we are any worse off for making most firearms illegal.
Thanks I read the articles. Yes, they make a great deal of sense and some interesting points but, especially in my country I really don't think gun ownership is a good idea. It would require changes to many laws, not just the gun laws but laws regarding protecting oneself and your home/property - we can't do that here. If the general public was armed, then it would be necessary for our police officers to all be armed. We have a massive issue with drinking in this country, and alcohol fueled violence, I wouldn't like to think of guns being mixed into that. It simply isn't really part of our culture the same way it is in America, even before they were banned the rules on firearms were very strict and most people didn't have one.
All I was interested in was target shooting myself, so I would have, as was the law then, kept them secure.
Now it does not matter, as you can't have them anyway.
If you are keeping a gun because you fear for your safety in your home (or eleswhere) of course you would be a fool to have it ready for immediate use.
Our laws on protecting yourself are pathetic. and for protecting your property, non existant!!!
You are not even allowed to keep a baseball bat or even a piece of timber ready to protect yourself. If you do that you are showing pre-meditation to injure an intruder!!!
can you believe things can get that cruddy. The criminals rights are so much more important than your owm.
The is actually no way for a victim to win - you are allowed to use "reasonable force" (as decided by a jury) to defend yourself. But if you have put any thought into that and planned to defend yourself, you are screwed for pre-meditation.
You are actually supposed to sit quietly and watch some tosser carry off your goods too, because you can only attack them if they are a threat to you, not your TV.
Totally pathetic.
There are time I feel like moving to New Hampshire, they have that part right up there at least!
I think that in the last 20 years they have taken many steps to become more deomcratic. Or less communist anyway. There are more international companies, like mc donalds opening in China and I think that they will move further away from communism.
We should bomb them into submission.
Let me guess, you own shares in a major bomb making company?
It would sure take a lot of bombs, and you would make a small fortune.

[1 point] 2 years ago by deleted user ReplyNeither does the British government. We were banned back in the 90's. Now only criminals have guns over here.
It's so stupid even our Olympic shooters had to give up their guns!!!
Typical kee-jerl overkill government reaction to some Scottish twat shooting up a school.

There is an old saying, "if you outlaw guns, only Outlaws will have guns", that is the situation we now have.
I think we should have the choice to own guns.
Remember you could never just walk into a gun shop and buy them, you had to be verified as reasonably safe to get a firearms certificate.
The whole post Dunblane thing was a shambles.
If he had beaten the kids to death with a golf club, would they have banned golf?
Guns are not evil, only people are evil.
(I do of course agree that they should be securely locked away when not in use.)

[1 point] 2 years ago by deleted user ReplyMy interets were nothing more sinister than shooting holes in paper targets.
Gun ownership by criminals is much greater than it ever was when citizens were allowed guns too.
One of my gripes now is that someone entering your house with a gun now KNOWS he has the upper hand.
Previously he knew he probably had the only gun but was never 100% sure.
Of course it could be a criminal robbing a criminal, that could be funny if they shot each other :)
Our self defence lawsa are pathetic anyway, but that is another issue.

It will happen, but not in 20 years. Id say 50+
