To my mind a successful SEO have sharp analytical skills and better understanding of any website?s business or services. It is more that enough if a person know HTML language (at least how to insert link). Learning HTML requires only one day and also it is a child job.
Now talking about next level, a website having a finance niche can be easily handle by SEO who comes from commerce stream. Because he should be of the theme, business and terminologies like inflation, insurance, superannuation, term deposits, and more.
So on the whole SEO does not require any computer degree?.
I don't understand HTML is a child's job. Children should be in school getting an education not working.
As for the question, I don't think there is a need for a degree provided the person can prove they can do the work.

All that's needed is great facility working within the Google framework because GEO (Google Engine Optimization) is all you need to be a successful optimizer. :)
Yes its necessary that an SEO must be an engineer, because the guy who has done engineering is having the strong knowledge of the Technicality, Technical Knowledge, Good Skills of work, High IQ level which normal students may not have as per my thinking, what is going on in outer world that is not the concern with me. I strongly believe that an SEO must be an engineer.

as far as concern with rozerswatt, he is straggling with SEO. he learn a lot of SEO technique from his non technical client (M__r_).
my advise to the both guys is to no need to afraid while speaking truth or your thoughts. keep posting with original identity like me.
I think that if you have degree then it will give you confidence that you know something little more than your competitor and help you to face the challenge because in the degree they also teach you to handle the situation in any condition , i don't think that without degree many can handle the pressure.And seo is a time handling and consuming task.
