I said yes but it depends on the context. I include a photo if it's in a context where I want to connect with people. If I simply want to shoot my mouth off I may not.
I think not using a photo is fine if its matched with an identifiable name, such as alisongow or AlisonLDP.
A combination of an unrecognisable name and an unidentifiable avatar is unhelpful for other people and probably counter-productive for the person themselves as it makes them harder to find.
Specifically on the subject of the devil, his part-cheeky, part-scared face would be a sad loss!
Thanks for your votes, comments and little side debate. - that's why I like using this site! Anyway, the results are looking intersting. Maybe my little devil will survive.
Alison, please please please keep the little devil. Besides him being an absolute representation of the best of you - fun, mischievous, welsh, active and (as with most devils) smart - he make it so much easier to pick you out from the drab masses. Feel the same about Jos cat.
Its the presence that counts and you have a huge presence. Anyone who wants to see how you look can find a pic if they need one.

I don't care. If "The Sheep" uses a picture of a sheep as her avatar I think it's much more fitting than any other image she might post here.
What's an avatar?
HUH??
Perhaps my humor is a little too dry...
A picture that represents you on a website. When I click on your profile here the picture on display is your avatar for this site.
Check some definitions here:

Encarta's 3rd and 4th definitions are the ones that most apply online.
(thesheep, who didn't expect that comment to be taken seriously, sneaks away)
Hoodwinked: "pulling the *wool* over someone's eyes."
Methinks there is a connection here, don't ewe? :-)
Goodness! *bats eyes*....it is certainly the wrong time of year for me to be doing THAT...it is too cold out!

I have only started using a pic of me as my avatar recently, as I wanted to show off my excellent hat.
If it is for work, a picture of you is a good idea I think. Otherwise, anything goes.
