I think for many couples, myself included, it makes a nice change.
Plus, I think some people, even in this day and age, have that ancient attitude that sex is all about a mans pleasure and a woman endures it out of duty, as crazy as that sounds.
When a girl makes it clear she wants it just as much as the guy, or maybe even more, that kills off any of those kind of thoughts that may still be lurking, even subconciously.
Also, apart from the initiating sex thing above, there is also the domination and submission that some people like to play with, with is another example of the girl taking control in a vey real way if she is in the dom role.

I am a take charge girl. I love it when my partner takes control, too, though. But, I would say I'm directing the show most of the time.
