Mostly no, but it provides a counterpoint in certain Mexican dishes that would be poorer without it.
We use lots of fresh herbs incl. cilantro which we have in our kitchen garden.
A tip for someone who is interested: To be nice to my back I came up with the idea to plant certain herbs in hanging pots - most comfortable and pest free.
Before I fill soil into the pots I put from the inside foam around so that the sun cannot destroy the roots. The pots are in old, metal colanders from 2nd-hand-stores. They hang on small chains from Home-Depot, sprayed green to fit in with the green surroundings. Positive is as well that they cannot be overwatered, because the water drops down into the deeper hanging pot and finally into the ground. The colanders fit perfectly to a kitchen garden.
And YES again, cilantro is wonderful, at least for our taste. :)
Cilantro is the leaf, coriander the seed, at least when used as a spice. If you grow it yourself and want leaves, give it plenty of shade; if you want seeds, grow in direct sunlight.
