As a Christian, this has always been a difficult you for me to decide. With today's medical advances a person can fix their gender as easily as a hip replacement (Well, maybe not that easily), but these weren't available before 50 years ago.
I'm not sure what your question or point is. It's true that medical interventions were not really available to help people who, to one degree or another, a born with a gender identity that is in conflict with their anatomy. However, that does not mean that it didn't exist prior to that. We weren't able to save the lives of "blue babies" prior to the development of the field of cardiology in the 1940's, however that doesn't mean the condition didn't exist. I'm interested in getting more information about what the point of comment or question was.
