We don't actually know that to be true, although it likely on a high order of probability. We currently have a body of self-consistent theories, borne out to a large degree by experiment, that indicate it is. But those theories still do not account for every observed phenomenon (gravity, for example), and there are some worrisome empirical inconsistencies.
Some very good people in the cosmology world still doubt the Big Bang. If they are right, that does NOT automatically make ID (what an oxymoron!) correct.
Is there a reason it can't be both?
Intelligent design might be an interesting theological hypothesis, but a (wo)man made god is more likely.
